JOIN THE OYSTER TEAM!

Volunteer sign-ups are now open for our second season of growing oysters on our FLUPSY (Floating Upweller System).

Help us raise up to 100,000 oysters right here in Mastic Beach while supporting cleaner water and a healthier coastal ecosystem.

Volunteer shifts are available through the season on select Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM, with space for up to four volunteers per shift. Most volunteers will help clean oyster cages and monitor oyster growth on the FLUPSY. We also offer one land-based data recording position each shift for volunteers who prefer or require a role with less physical mobility.
No experience is necessary. We'll teach you everything you need to know.

What is a FLUPSY?
A Floating Upweller System (FLUPSY) is a floating nursery that provides young oysters with the ideal conditions to grow. As they mature, oysters naturally filter the water, improving water quality and helping restore our coastal ecosystem.

Volunteer Details
• Select Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM
• Four volunteers per shift
• Location: Mastic Beach, NY

Before You Volunteer
• Closed-toe shoes are required.
• Volunteers should be comfortable lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Dress for the weather and be prepared to get messy.
• We have a limited number of bib overalls available to help protect your clothing.
• Bring sunscreen and bug spray.
• One land-based data recording position is available each shift for volunteers seeking a lower-mobility role.

Sign up through the link in our bio. Shifts fill quickly.

Special thanks to and for making this project possible.

What a perfect day for Race the Narrows!

Thank you to every paddler, volunteer, sponsor, spectator, and community member who joined us for this year's Race the Narrows. Whether you raced the 5-mile or 2.5-mile course, explored the bay on the Guided Nature Paddle, or cheered from shore, you helped make this an incredible celebration.

• Noah and The Frances & Peter Robotti Foundation for sponsoring our raffle, including the grand prize Retrospec Weekender Plus 10' Inflatable Stand Up Paddleboard Kit
• Mastic Beach Ambulance Company, Mastic Beach Fire Department and Suffolk County Police for helping ensure a safe and successful event

And to our volunteers, board members, staff, photographers, and everyone who lent a hand before, during, and after the event—thank you. Your time, energy, and enthusiasm made the day possible.

The momentum doesn't stop here. We have exciting conservation, restoration, and community projects already in the works, and every registration, donation, and volunteer makes them possible. Thank you for helping us build a healthier, more resilient future for Mastic Beach.
