Sometimes our work looks a lot like play.

Our Neighbors Helping Neighbors workdays are a chance for volunteers to come together, support local families, and make a real difference in everyday life.

Last Saturday, volunteers helped create a safe outdoor play area for a child with special needs, giving him a place where he can explore, play, and enjoy being a kid safely.

We were also grateful to have Braden join us. Braden served as CHC's Volunteer Coordinator before leaving for graduate school, and while he was back in town, he jumped right in to lend a hand.

It was a special day for everyone involved. Thanks to the hard work of volunteers, this family can rest a little easier knowing their son now has a secure space to play outside and enjoy the simple joys of childhood.

This is what community looks like ...Neighbors Helping Neighbors.

Weโ€™re excited to share a project our Youth Advisory Council (YAC) has been working on and how this simple effort is making a real difference for neighbors in our community.

When our case managers conduct home repair assessments, they note whether a home has visible house numbers. While missing house numbers can make it difficult for visitors to find a home, it can also create a serious safety concern when emergency responders need to locate an address quickly.

Our Youth Advisory Council saw an opportunity to help. They took our growing list of homes in need of house numbers and turned it into a meaningful service project.

During one of our workdays, we partnered with PAGE to create bright, colorful number plaques. PAGE volunteers painted the plaques and organized the numbers for each address, while other YAC members assembled the finished signs.

The project continued with the help of a summer volunteer group from Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Cedartown, Georgia, who were staying at Glory Ridge. They spent time installing the house numbers at homes throughout the community.

We hope these new house numbers not only help keep our neighbors safe but also bring a little extra joy and color to their homes.

A huge thank you to everyone who made this project possible: our case managers, volunteer coordinator, In-House Carpentry, Youth Advisory Council, PAGE, Glory Ridge, and Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Together, you are helping make our community safer, one address at a time.

โ˜€๏ธ Summer Kick-Off Home Maintenance Tips from CHC ๐Ÿก

As summer gets underway next week, a little maintenance can help keep your home safe, healthy, and comfortable:

๐Ÿ”น Check your roof for missing shingles or signs of leaks.
๐Ÿ”น Clean gutters and downspouts to prevent water damage.
๐Ÿ”น Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
๐Ÿ”น If you have a well or spring water system, inspect the area for damage, ensure the source is protected from runoff, and consider water quality testing.
๐Ÿ”น Inspect decks, steps, and railings for loose boards or safety hazards.
๐Ÿ”น Service your HVAC system and replace air filters for better efficiency.
๐Ÿ”น Look for plumbing leaks and repair them before they become bigger problems.

A few simple checks now can help prevent costly repairs later! ๐Ÿ’™
