Chipola Healthy Start honored October’s Fetal and Infant Loss Awareness Month with a Remembrance Walk and Flower Tribute on October 7th to honor the babies in our community who left us too soon.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who joined us, including our community partners: Jackson County Healthy Start, Calhoun/Liberty Healthy Start, Marianna Pregnancy Center, Mark’s Hope, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Bells View LLC, and Mama Babe Wellness.

Chipola Heathy Start recently received a donation of hand-crocheted baby blankets. Karen Wilson, Founder/Director of Mark's Hope Grief Support delivered these blankets to us as part of our FDOH Regional FIMR involvement. These blankets can be placed in Bereavement Boxes and given to families that experience a fetal/infant loss. Mark's Hope Grief Support

Our team had a great time at the Florida Association of Healthy Start Coalitions (FAHSC) Annual Conference in Orlando. We enjoyed connecting with coalitions from across the state, hearing from inspiring speakers such as Robyn Faucy and Michael Strawser as they discussed achieving results and the impact of communication throughout the client experience.
We also gained valuable insights during breakout sessions focused on coalition leadership, T.E.A.M. Dad, and creative ways to better engage our communities.
We are excited to bring these lessons back to the families and community we serve!

As Jackson County continues recovery efforts following Hurricane Isaias, Jackson County Emergency Management and the Florida Department of Health in Jackson County are actively working together to assist residents with critical medical needs.

If you or someone you know relies on supplemental oxygen and is currently without electricity or running low on their backup oxygen supply, please contact the Jackson County Citizens Information Line so emergency personnel can help coordinate assistance.

🌀 HURRICANE ISAIAS | JACKSON COUNTY UPDATE
Friday, October 9

Jackson County Emergency Management and local response agencies continue preparing for Hurricane Isaias as the storm approaches the Florida Panhandle.

According to this morning’s briefing with the Florida Division of Emergency Management, and the expected impacts to our area remain largely unchanged.

⚠️ WHAT JACKSON COUNTY RESIDENTS NEED TO KNOW:
🌪️ Tornadoes: Remain alert for possible tornadoes and severe thunderstorms as rainbands move through our area.

💨 Winds: Jackson County is expected to experience periods of strong winds associated with passing rainbands. Hazardous conditions could continue into Saturday morning.

🌧️ Heavy Rainfall: Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected throughout Friday, with additional showers and thunderstorms possible as the storm moves inland.

🕒 Timing: Landfall is currently projected between 7–9 p.m. CT tonight, with the storm moving through the Panhandle overnight.

🚗 PLEASE STAY OFF THE ROADS: With hazardous weather approaching, residents are strongly encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel. Storm preparations should be completed, and everyone should be in a safe location before conditions deteriorate.

🚨 LOCAL EMERGENCY RESPONSE:
Jackson County's Emergency Operations Center activated at Level 2 at 10 a.m. today, with local and state emergency response partners coordinating resources and preparing for potential impacts. Emergency medical response teams, utility crews, and damage assessment personnel are preparing to respond as conditions allow.

🏠 SHELTERING: While a general population shelter is not currently open in Jackson County, Emergency Management continues coordinating with community partners and the American Red Cross to prepare for potential emergency sheltering needs.

Residents who do not feel safe remaining in their current location are encouraged to make arrangements now to stay with family, friends, or at another safe location before weather conditions deteriorate.
