Object of Rotary on a global and local level:

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

FIRST: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
SECOND: High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the

dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
THIRD: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;
FOURTH: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service. The Four-Way Test

The Four-Way Test is a nonpartisan and nonsectarian ethical guide for Rotarians to use for their personal and professional relationships. The test has been translated into more than 100 languages, and Rotarians recite it at club meetings:
Of the things we think, say or do

Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned? Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned? Avenues of Service

We channel our commitment to service at home and abroad through five Avenues of Service, which are the foundation of club activity. Club Service focuses on making clubs strong. A thriving club is anchored by strong relationships and an active membership development plan. Vocational Service calls on every Rotarian to work with integrity and contribute their expertise to the problems and needs of society. Learn more in An Introduction to Vocational Service and the Code of Conduct. Community Service encourages every Rotarian to find ways to improve the quality of life for people in their communities and to serve the public interest. Learn more in Communities in Action: A Guide to Effective Projects and this Community Service presentation (PPT). International Service exemplifies our global reach in promoting peace and understanding. We support this service avenue by sponsoring or volunteering on international projects, seeking partners abroad, and more. Youth Service recognizes the importance of empowering youth and young professionals through leadership development programs such as Rotaract, Interact, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, and Rotary Youth Exchange.

Holly Michelle Phillips (ne'e Gilliam, born June 4, 1944) is an American retired singer, songwriter and actress. Described by Time magazine as the "purest soprano in pop music", she rose to fame in the mid 1960's with the folk rock group the Mamas & the Papas.

California holds a monumental place in Rotary International history as the home of the world's second ever Rotary club, founded in San Francisco in 1908. Quickly expanding across the bay, the Rotary Club of Oakland was chartered soon after as the third club in the world.

Trivia question for a free lunch at one or our regularly scheduled meetings: What year and in what city was Rotary founded? Reply in the comments.

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of inducting our newest Rotarian, Cheryl Medeiros!

Cheryl is a mortgage broker at Security State Bank and Trust. Go see her for your mortgage lending needs!

She also says she loves to travel whenever possible! And of course serving the community and others which is why we think she'll make a great Rotarian!

Jim Thorpe was born on May 28, 1887. He was a stand-out-all-around athlete in track and field, football and baseball. And the first Native American to win Olympic gold for the United States.

The Rotary Club of Jim Thorpe is a prominent local civic organization in (you guessed it) Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania.

Now, let's hear from Dwight Yoakam! One of my personal favorites! And, I was today years old when I learned this is a "Love" song!

The Rotary Club of Marble Falls sponsors Rotary International's Interact program.
Interact Clubs are service-oriented organizations for young people ages 12–18 (often high schoolers), sponsored by local Rotary clubs to foster leadership, international understanding, and community service.

The Marble Falls High School Interact Club participated in fundraising all year and then chose the charities that they wanted to donate to. Their club motto is "Service Above Self." They chose to donate $250 each to The Phoenix Center, The Mission Center, Ark of the Highland Lakes, and Family Crisis Center.

Charles Augustus Lindbergh (Feb 4, 1902 - Aug 26, 1974) was an American aviator, military officer and author. On May 20-21, 1927, he made the first nonstop flight from New York to Paris, a distance of 3600 miles, flying alone for over 33 hours.

Lindbergh was an honorary member of the Rotary Club of St. Louis. In June of 1927, St. Louis Rotarians subscribed $10,000 to help construct a hangar and machine shop at Lambert Field, giving the Spirit of St. Louis a permanent home base.
