Dr. Amy Acton's stepfather 🍇 and sexually abused her when she was only 12 years old. And Vivek Ramaswamy thought it was appropriate to turn her childhood trauma into a political attack ad. This is the lowest of the low. Absolutely disgusting.

We will only share the response from Dr. Acton’s campaign. Childhood sexual abuse should NEVER be weaponized for political gain.

Nathaly Ramirez, a 23-year-old mother, was murdered when her abusive ex pushed her from a 15th-floor balcony in the Bronx as she tried to shield their 8-month-old baby girl.

Her baby is now in critical condition, clinging to life.

There was reportedly a history of domestic violence. Police had been called to the apartment multiple times before this tragedy.

While we do not yet know whether custody or visitation proceedings were involved, this tragedy underscores why protecting children from domestic violence is so critical—and why we created Kyra’s Law.

Our hearts are shattered for Nathaly, her baby girl, and everyone who loved them. A mother should never have to sacrifice her life trying to save her child.

Today carries THREE powerful meanings.

💙 It is National Daughters Day.
💙 It is the National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims.
💙 And eight years ago today, H.Con.Res. 72 passed the U.S. House of Representatives unanimously — declaring that child safety should come FIRST in custody and visitation cases. Kyra was integral to its passage.

Kyra Franchetti was only two when New York Family Court failed to protect her. Since then, at least 46 New York children have been murdered by a parent or caregiver in custody, visitation and divorce-related cases.

To honor Kyra today, let’s look at what we have accomplished in Kyra’s memory:

Congress heard us.

New York’s Legislature heard us, unanimously passing Kyra’s Law (A.6194C/S.5998C) AND unanimously passing a measure to standardize forensic child custody evaluators.

Survivors, children, experts, advocates, law enforcement and prosecutors have spoken in support of Kyra’s Law.

And Champions, YOU have gotten LOUD.

Yet Kyra’s Law remains unsigned by Governor Kathy Hochul

Today, as we remember the children taken too soon, and celebrate the daughters we love — whether we hold them in our arms or in our hearts — let’s get LOUD for the children we can still protect.

100 DAYS since the New York Legislature UNANIMOUSLY passed Kyra’s Law.

Let's talk numbers....

60–0 — Senate vote.

131–0 — Assembly vote.

3 — Op-eds from respected legal and domestic violence experts making the case for Kyra’s Law.

7th — The grade Kyra would have entered.

10 YEARS — since New York Family Court failed to protect Kyra
and she was murdered by her abusive father.

5 — New York children murdered since Kyra’s Law passed.

And after all of that:
0 — ACTION FROM Governor Kathy Hochul.

And while Governor Kathy Hochul waits to act, abusers are NOT waiting.

Children continue to be court-ordered into dangerous situations, exposed to abuse and failed by a Family Court system entrusted with protecting them.

And during this time, we have NOT been quiet.

Legal experts have spoken.
Domestic violence leaders have spoken.
Child advocates have spoken.
Law enforcement and prosecutors have spoken.
Survivors have spoken.
Children failed by NY family court have spoken.
The media has spoken.

Today should have been Kyra’s 1st day of Junior High School.🎒

She should be 12 years old.

Kyra likely would have gone to the same junior high I did. I can still remember those hallways. The lockers. The excitement of that first day. And today, I should have been watching her experience all of it.

Instead, I watched the school bus drive past my house...without Kyra.🚌

There are certain days like today that shatter my heart. Today is one of them. 💔

She is now old enough that she could have joined our Student Advocacy Program. Kyra could have been one of our students using her voice to make a difference.

Instead, I have spent nearly 10 years using mine because hers was forever silenced by her abusive father due to the failures of New York Family Court.

Kyra’s Law passed the New York Legislature unanimously 88 days ago.🙌

Governor Hochul, PLEASE sign Kyra’s Law. ⚖️

I could not wait with her for today’s school bus. But New York can protect children who are still here with Kyra's Law.

JUDGE FACES REMOVAL: The New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct is recommending Poughkeepsie City Court Judge Frank Mora be removed from the bench for retaliating against a woman who filed a misconduct complaint against him.

🚨They make clear why this legislation is so urgently needed: 46 New York children have been murdered in custody-related cases since Kyra’s murder.

⚠️ Again and again, there were warning signs.
💔 Parents pleaded for help.
📄 Abuse was documented.
Yet children were still placed in harm’s way.

Kyra’s Law was carefully vetted. It earned broad support. And in June, it passed the New York State Legislature unanimously.
