Too hot today, but information about w**ding-the never ending job.
It’s National W**d Your Garden Day! This is your sign to get out in the garden and pick some w**ds. 🌾
Before reaching for landscape fabric, it’s worth knowing that while it can do a good job of suppressing w**ds at first, it often becomes more difficult to manage over time.
Any mulch or soil that accumulates on top of landscape fabric can support w**d growth. Once perennial w**ds grow through the fabric, they can be especially difficult to remove without disturbing nearby landscape plants.
For long-term w**d suppression in perennial gardens and shrub borders, organic mulch is often the better option. Shredded wood mulch works well and breaks down gradually, while shredded leaves and pine needles are also excellent choices.
As long as a garden is thoroughly w**ded before mulching and mulch is applied at the proper depth, you can expect fewer w**ds and less maintenance throughout the growing season.
