🇺🇸 Today is ! 🇺🇸
In recognition of The American Legion's 90th birthday in 2009, the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives passed a resolution officially designating September 16 as American Legion Day.

This effort was led in the Senate by Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-Maine), who praised the Legion for its support of wounded veterans and military families, its strong tradition of community volunteerism, and its vital role in shaping key national legislation.
Today, we honor their continued service and unwavering commitment to veterans, communities, and our nation. 💙

During the 1932 American Legion National Convention in Portland, the Sons of The American Legion (SAL) were adopted as a program within The American Legion.

For 94 years, SAL members past and present have proudly served alongside the entire , supporting veterans, their families, our communities, and the mission of The American Legion.

Thank you to every SAL member for your dedication, service, and continued commitment. Here’s to many more years of serving those who have served! 🎉🇺🇸

Today marks the 25th anniversary of 9/11, let’s take a moment to remember the lives lost and the impact this day had on so many. Unit 2 encourages everyone to pause and observe moments of silence at the following times:

- **8:46 AM**: Flight 11 hits the North Tower.
- **9:03 AM**: Flight 175 hits the South Tower.
- **9:37 AM**: Flight 77 hits the Pentagon.
- **9:59 AM**: The South Tower falls.
- **10:03 AM**: Flight 93 crashes in Pennsylvania.
- **10:28 AM**: The North Tower falls.

We wish this did not have to become an argument. But in our comments and messages, we hear it again and again: debates over what color star a family should be, whose loss “qualifies,” and where a family belongs after losing a Veteran to su***de.

And that conversation goes to the very heart of why Green Star exists.

The Gold Star has a long and deeply honored place in America’s military-family tradition. We respect that history. We respect Gold Star families. And Green Star Families has never existed to take one single thing away from them.

We are here because there is another group of families who have too often been left standing on the outside.

Families who lost a Veteran to su***de. Families whose loved one served, sacrificed, came home, carried wounds that were not always visible, and later died by su***de..

This should not be a competition over grief. It should not be a fight over whose loss matters more. There is already far too much pain in the military and Veteran community for us to turn on one another.

We should be standing beside each other.
Supporting each other.
Loving each other.
Honoring the lives and service of those we lost.

No family should feel invisible.

On August 16, 1940, the first official Army parachute jump took place at Fort Benning, Georgia, led by 48 brave volunteers from the U.S. Army Parachute Test Platoon.

August 16 is recognized as National Airborne Day a time to honor the courage, dedication, and service of all past and present Airborne troops.

🇺🇸 Honoring the Navajo Code Talkers 🇺🇸

August 14 is National Navajo Code Talkers’s Day. We honor the courage, sacrifice, and extraordinary service of the Navajo Code Talkers who served during World War II.

Their Navajo language became the foundation of a highly effective military code that helped protect vital communications, support our troops, and save countless lives. Their bravery, intelligence, and dedication remain an enduring part of American history.

The American Legion Family proudly honors the legacy of these remarkable heroes and all Native American veterans who have served our nation. 🇺🇸
