🏀 Hoops for Healing: What a Night! ❤️

The inaugural Hoops For Healing event was a slam dunk—sold out and filled with incredible community spirit!

Created by the Robinson Family Foundation, the event centered around its three pillars: heart, mind, and body. We’re proud and honored that Safe Sports Network is one of the many beneficiaries helping bring this mission to life for local student-athletes.

A huge thank-you to Duncan Robinson and everyone who made this unforgettable first year possible. We’re honored to be part of it!

We loved being part of Manchester Proud’s CelebratED event and connecting with our community!

Our Safe Sports Network team was there to share our belief that every young athlete deserves access to quality athletic healthcare and the support to participate safely and confidently.

In Manchester, our athletic trainers help student-athletes prevent injuries, recover when they happen, manage concussions, and get back to the sports they love.

Before the first practice, before the first game, and hopefully before the first emergency, there is rehearsal.

This morning, Safe Sports Network athletic trainers came together to practice the skills they rely on when seconds matter - CPR, equipment removal, environmental monitoring, and the recognition and treatment of exertional heat illness.

None of these skills are learned once and forgotten. They are revisited, practiced, and refined year after year.

Most of this work happens quietly, long before athletes arrive. But it’s part of the foundation that helps create safer athletic environments for student-athletes across Greater Manchester.

The safest moments in sports are often the results of preparation no one ever sees.

Together, we’re building the systems that help every athlete participate safely and thrive.

Every season begins long before the first whistle.

Tonight, coaches from our Safe Sports Network partner schools came together to complete CPR training—strengthening the knowledge, confidence, and preparedness that help create safer athletic environments for student-athletes across Greater Manchester.

Preparation isn't just about meeting a requirement. It is about building the systems that support athletes when it matters most.

Safe sports don't happen by accident. They happen because coaches, athletic trainers, healthcare professionals, schools, and community partners choose to prepare—together.

Thank you to every coach who invested their time this evening. Your commitment helps ensure our student-athletes have the preparation, support, and community behind them to participate safely and thrive.

Community matters. This morning, Safe Sports Network Executive Director, Amy Hollingworth, volunteered at the Friends of Aine Kids Try-athlon, leading participants through their pre-race warm-up. Supporting organizations that help children thrive—and celebrating the joy of movement—is something Amy is always excited to be part of. Way to go to everyone who participated!

The Power, Motivation Of Kids Helping Other Kids! - The Friends of Aine Kid’s Try-athlon

Every August, the grounds of the Bedford Town Pool and High School fill with the energy of hundreds of young athletes. The Friends of Aine Kid’s Try-athlon brings together children aged 4 to 15, along with families, volunteers, and local supporters, for a swim, bike, and run event where every participant crosses the finish line as a winner.

A Legacy Born from Love

The event honors the memory of Aine Marie Phillips, an eight-year-old Bedford girl who passed away unexpectedly in 2010 from an undiagnosed lung condition. Aine loved playing outside—especially swimming, biking, and running through the summer months. Following her loss, her parents, David and Christine Phillips, recognized a vital gap in local bereavement resources for Aine’s surviving sister, Bella.

In response, they established Friends of Aine, which has grown into New Hampshire’s only non-profit dedicated solely to offering free peer-to-peer grief support programs for children, teens, and families navigating the loss of a loved one.

The Race Experience

Designed to build confidence rather than foster intense competition, the Try-athlon welcomes children of all athletic abilities:

Ages 4–10: Swim 25 yards, bike 1 mile, and run 1/2 mile.

Ages 11–15: Swim 50 yards, bike 2 miles, and run 1 mile.

Course logistics and timing are managed in partnership with Millennium Running, while local businesses and volunteers power the setup, race support, and post-event family festival featuring crafts, games, and refreshments.

Impact Beyond the Finish Line

All proceeds directly fund the center's bereavement programs, ensuring that young people grieving a parent, sibling, or loved one receive professional guidance and peer connection without any financial burden. The event embodies a simple, powerful ethos: kids active in their community helping other kids heal.
