hing from website design/maintenance to broken laptops to network issues to installing security systems. Most of all, we are AFFORDABLE: our 2023 rate is $90/hour. Our Digital Equity Project is a community program dedicated to improving social and economic equity by connecting low-income households to affordable internet service and computers, and by providing free computer literacy classes and tech repair clinics in community centers and libraries. It’s estimated that 14,000 households in Dane County lack reliable connectivity and we are working to change that through collaborative partnerships with funders, social workers, schools, and case managers.

"I've never heard of DANEnet!"
Our goal is to hear that less so please help spread the word. Nonprofits don't need to pay over $1k/month for a Managed Service Provider that spends less than 2 hrs/month offering *actual* support --they can pay us $200 to do the same thing because 1) we only charge for work we actually do (and MSPs will needlessly charge you for tasks that are automated through your existing software/services), and 2) it's always $100/hr no matter what type of work it is: building/installing networks, website redesign, installing security cameras, or just figuring out why your printer won't print. CAPTCHA is short for "Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart" and it's a security measure designed to protect websites by verifying a user is human rather than a bot. Legimate CAPTCHAs only ask you to tick a box or solve a quick puzzle so DO NOT TRUST verification steps that require you to perform a combination of keystrokes or copy & paste code --which may just give scammers access to your computer. Visit Ian’s Pizza at Garver Feed Mill between 4-9pm Wednesday, April 1 and a portion of their profits will go to DANEnet’s Digital Equity Project! DANEnet staff will be at Ian’s that evening to collect donated laptops, answer tech questions, and hand out flyers to anyone who doesn’t already have one to show. (Only purchases made with the event flyer will be applied towards our fundraiser.)

You get an unexpected brunch invitation from your favorite neighbor via email, and click the button that says "Open Invitation." You're taken to a page that looks like your gmail login page, so you enter your email address and password.

Congratulations! You've now given hackers your email address and password and they'll use your email to send the same scam email invitation to everyone in your address book so they can get their email login info, too. See how easy that was?

This is called a phishing scam and they are VERY effective, sadly. We want everyone to _slow down_ and recognize red flags:
*Was this email unexpected?
*Does the mysterious email require you to open a link or attachment?
*Are you tired, stressed out, or distracted?

Hackers rely on our curiosity/distraction and safety requires diligence. We want everyone to stay safe AND we're offering a free online Zoom class on cybersecurity at 11am Tuesday March 10 if you'd like additional guidance and a pep talk!
