Abby, Dana, Tina, Elliot, Ash, Wendy, Gouri, Lane, Karen, Sally, Colene, and several others volunteered to get the word out about this year's GSAFE Online Quilt & Fiber Art Auction (Nov 24 - Dec 1) by taking time to get posters up in coffee shops, quilt and fiber shops, bookstores, places of worship, and other LGBTQ+ affirming businesses and locations. Thank you, friends!

Can help us get posters up at 5 or more places, DM us with how many you need and where to send them. With YOUR help we can poster the state - and beyond - and help sustain our work to create safe and affirming schools for LGBTQ+ youth!

Started the week with a sneak peek of two knitted blankets destined for GSAFE's Online Quilt and Fiber Art Auction from regular contributor Libby! Wow!

Libby says about the first one: This blanket is mosaic knitting, one color knitted at a time. This was a fun knit, not premeditated. I finished one pattern and then decided on the next pattern. This blanket contains only five colors. All but the purple are Berroco Ultra Woo Chunky, 100% superwash wool. The purple is Jamieson’s from Scotland, 100% wool. Care instructions from Berroco for this yarn “for best results place in a mesh bag, machine wash in cold water on delicate.Tumble dry low.”I doubt you have a mesh bag big enough for this blanket! Never hang a knitted item whether wet or dry.

Libby also said:
I want every person in Wisconsin to be and feel safe regardless of their sexual orientation. This is especially important in our hostile political environment.

“Wisconsin's pupil nondiscrimination statute protects students based on sexual orientation, and the federal court covering Wisconsin recognized in 2017 that Title IX protects transgender students," Juchems said. "Nearly 80% of Wisconsin school districts have also added gender identity to their own nondiscrimination policies. Those local commitments matter more than ever, so that a student's safety doesn't depend on which district they happen to live in."

While we were at Blue Bar Quilts yesterday taking photos of items for this year's GSAFE Online Quilt and Fiber Art Auction regular donor Jennifer Chiaverini stopped by to drop off this beauty and chat!

About the quilt:

Aulani Ho’oilo is a tropical rainbow sampler designed by Jennifer Chiaverini, created in fabrics from her fabric collection “Elm Creek Quilts: The Aloha Quilt.” The blocks were pieced and appliquéd by quilting friends and readers from around the world, assembled by Jennifer Chiaverini, and quilted by Sue Vollbrecht.  A photo of the quilt appears in Jennifer Chiaverini’s pattern book, Loyal Union Sampler from Elm Creek Quilts.

This and hundreds of amazing items will be on auction Nov 24 - Dec 1 at gsafequilts2026.givesmart.com. All proceeds help create safe and affirming schools for LGBTQ+ youth in Wisconsin schools.

A sampler quilt with 35 different pieced blocks, such as stars, pinwheels, and nine-patches, arranged in seven rows of five on a deep purple background. Luanne told us, "This hand crochet scarf was made using West Yorkshire Spinners ColourLab’s Technicolour DK weight yarn spun with 100% British wool; country of origin is West Yorkshire, England. Easy to care for, the yarn is machine washable (machine wash, lay flat to dry) & comes in a gorgeous jewel-tone palette of solids and self-striping colorways."

Calling our trans youth, families, caregivers, educators, and allies!

Join us at GSAFE on October 17th from 11AM–1PM for our Trans Youth & Family Meeting.

We’re bringing folks together to connect, hear more about what’s happening with youth programming at GSAFE, share what our young people and families need, and continue building a stronger community of support around trans and gender-expansive youth.

Whether you’re a young person, parent, caregiver, educator, or someone who simply wants to show up and support our youth, we’d love to have you in the room.

And yes, we’ll have food!
