Communities In Schools of Central Georgia

Communities In Schools of Central Georgia CIS of Central Georgia provides case managed and school wide services in Bibb county.

What sets Communities In Schools apart from other organizations is its model of providing a comprehensive range of community services, also known as integrated student services. Communities In Schools positions a dedicated staff member - an Empowerment Coach - inside partner schools. In this pivotal role, the Empowerment Coach works with school staff to identify students at risk of not graduating

. He or she assesses school and student needs and establishes relationships with local businesses, social service agencies, health care providers, and parent and volunteer organizations to harness needed resources. Whether it's tutoring, eyeglasses or just a caring adult to talk to, when these needs are met, students can concentrate on learning. With a largely volunteer base, Communities In Schools is cost-efficient, and the model is adaptable to urban, rural or suburban schools.

Summer is part of the school journey too. A strong start in August can begin with a book in June, a library visit in July or one steady routine that helps a student keep growing.

Every student deserves support that carries from one season into the next. Stability, encouragement and connection can help the next school year feel more possible before it even begins.

Did you know many public school students in Central Georgia can use their student ID number to access library resources?

Middle Georgia Regional Library’s PLAY Card program gives students free access to public library materials and online resources that can help them read, learn and stay engaged during the summer.

That kind of access matters. When students have books, technology and trusted places to learn, summer becomes part of their growth.

A strong summer goal does not have to be complicated. Read a little. Move your body. Stay connected to someone who believes in you.

For students, small routines can make a big difference between the last day of school and the first day back. A few pages a day, one library visit a week or one steady check-in with a caring adult can help students return in August feeling more ready and supported.

SOAR Academy students had the incredible opportunity to participate in the Reality U financial simulation sponsored by CIS Central Georgia!
Students were challenged to navigate real-world financial decisions by managing careers, budgets, housing, transportation, childcare, and everyday expenses. This hands-on experience gave them valuable insight into the importance of financial literacy, planning, and responsible decision-making.
Experiences like Reality U empower students to think critically, plan ahead, and dream big!

Gloria Burnette, Communities In Schools Empowerment Coach at Ingram Pye has been supporting groups of young ladies with the Girls and Pearls program for the past four years. This year’s Night of Elegance celebrating these young ladies is shaping up to be the best ever with a bit of extra support from HIPS, HOP Youth and Helping Others Foundation. CIS Central Georgia thanks you for gifting the young ladies with pearls and attire.

Can you believe it is almost May? 🗓️ We are entering the home stretch of the 2025-2026 school year. This is "crunch time"—where grades are finalized, tests are taken and seniors make that final push toward the stage.

Our Empowerment Coaches are working overtime right now to ensure every student finishes as strong as they started.

Let's rally behind our students for these final weeks. The finish line is in sight!

"Communities In Schools stepped in at a time when I didn't have much direction and helped me believe that I was capable of more." — Savion Wright, CISCG Alum.

Savion found his purpose. Now he is a source of light for others.

This is the ripple effect. When we help one student rewrite their story, they go on to change the world around them.

Have a great weekend, Central Georgia!

The data is in. CIS works. 🎓A recent Harvard study found that three years of CIS support raises high school graduation rates by 5.2%.

That might sound like a small number, but in a district of thousands, that is hundreds of students who might not have walked across the stage otherwise.

We are moving the needle, one student at a time.
