Communities In Schools of Central Georgia

Communities In Schools of Central Georgia CIS of Central Georgia provides case managed and school wide services in Bibb county.

What sets Communities In Schools apart from other organizations is its model of providing a comprehensive range of community services, also known as integrated student services. Communities In Schools positions a dedicated staff member - an Empowerment Coach - inside partner schools. In this pivotal role, the Empowerment Coach works with school staff to identify students at risk of not graduating

. He or she assesses school and student needs and establishes relationships with local businesses, social service agencies, health care providers, and parent and volunteer organizations to harness needed resources. Whether it's tutoring, eyeglasses or just a caring adult to talk to, when these needs are met, students can concentrate on learning. With a largely volunteer base, Communities In Schools is cost-efficient, and the model is adaptable to urban, rural or suburban schools.

A 2025 Harvard/Cornell study found that three years of CIS exposure increased high school graduation rates for high-risk students in the study by 3.4 percentage points.

That difference isn’t magic. It’s an Empowerment Coach who knew a student's name and kept showing up.

Your support puts more of those Empowerment Coaches in Central Georgia schools. Give at ciscg.org.

Chronic absence is one of the earliest signs that a student is struggling, and it usually shows up long before grades do.

Our Empowerment Coaches watch attendance closely so they can step in early, find out what is getting in the way and help solve it. Sometimes the barrier is a ride. Sometimes it’s a clean uniform. Sometimes it is harder than that.

Either way, it starts with someone noticing.

Make a Difference — Become a Mentor!
Every student deserves a caring adult who believes in them, listens to them, and helps them see what’s possible.
We’re looking for caring, dependable adults to serve as mentors during the school day with Communities In Schools. As a mentor, you’ll have the opportunity to build a meaningful relationship with a student, encourage their goals, provide a listening ear, and be a positive presence in their school experience.
You don’t have to have all the answers. You just have to show up, listen, encourage, and care.
A small investment of your time can make a lasting impact on a young person’s life.
Become a mentor. Build a connection. Change a life.
If you’re interested in becoming a school-day mentor with Communities In Schools, send us a message or contact us to learn more and get involved!

Programs don't change people. Relationships do." This is the foundation of the Communities In Schools mission, nationwide.

You can have the best curriculum, the newest technology and the most robust resources. But without a consistent, caring adult to connect those tools to the student, the impact falls short.

Resources provide the means, but relationships provide the motivation. That’s why we don't just drop off supplies — we stay. We build the bond that makes the resources work.

The first word in our name is Communities, and that’s not an accident.

Every backpack handed out, every coat that fits, every tutoring hour and every ride to school comes from someone in Central Georgia who decided a student they may never meet was worth the investment. Local businesses, churches, civic groups and individual donors make this work possible.

To everyone who gave time, money or supplies to get our students to this first week: thank you. The school year started well because you showed up before it did.

A student cannot focus on a math lesson while worrying about what they will eat after school.

Our Empowerment Coaches help meet basic needs first, from school supplies and clothing to food for the weekend. It’s not a side project. It’s what makes learning possible.

If your family could use support this year, reach out to the CIS Empowerment Coach at your school.

Volunteers tutor, mentor, sort supplies and sit with students who need one more adult in their corner. If you have a few hours a month, we can put them to good use.

Get in touch and we will help you find the right fit.

What a great surprise for CIS Central Georgia today! We were honored to have our Superintendent stop by for a visit. From what I heard, he made himself right at home in my office! 😊
I'm just a little disappointed that I missed the opportunity to see him in person, but I'm so glad he took the time to visit. Hopefully I'll catch him on his next visit!
