Our students enjoyed Black History Month.

Our younger students walked to our new mural to see many amazing Black Americans. They were so excited! When the Douglass Family name was talked about, some students yelled out, “He is the man where we went to his theater! They shared their experiences at the Douglass Theater. Mr. Douglass recently would have been 156 years old. Dr Howard talked about Mr Douglass being ambitious. She also read many interesting fact to the students.

Students also toured and learned about famous African Americans from triboards such as Dr Charles Drew, Booker T Washington, Katherine Johnson, Maryun Luther King, Jr.,Georgia Washington Carver and Bob Marley.

In response to the tragic violence in our community last weekend, MVP would like to offer something to those who might be feeling angry, frustrated or powerless. If you’re looking for a way to make our community better, make meaningful connections, offer much-needed support and, in the process, improve your own life, we have opportunities for you.
In the coming days and weeks, we’ll be offering information from our community partners about volunteer, and even some paid, opportunities to be part of the solution. It’s easy to criticize violence prevention efforts from the sidelines, but it accomplishes nothing, other than further dividing our community.
We challenge you to stand in the gap for a child who needs your support and wisdom, to offer your time to weary mental health professionals who need office and clerical support, (like those at the Family Counseling Center of Central Georgia ) or offer your skills, whether they be a super-low golf handicap (First Tee - Middle Georgia ), artistic expression or ability to read a story (Lead With Literacy , Girls Dig Deeper Initiative, 100 Black Men of Macon-Middle Georgia Men About Change, Inc. Next Level Community Development Center , Campus Clubs, Inc. ). You could open up a whole new world of possibility to a young person in our community. You may not make news headlines in the process because stories of young people who go on to lead quiet lives of progress don’t usually make the news. But, you will gain everything by knowing that you made a difference in someone’s life. The ripple effects of that are enormous. If you’re interested, stay tuned to our page for more information or reach out to our community grant recipients to see how you can help.

An exiting report by our Executive Director, Robin Crosby, “One of my goals and prayers when I was hired over fifteen years ago, was to one day hire one of my Campus Clubs students as a teacher. That day has come!

I’m very thankful that I saw Ayanna in the community. She told me how much she had enjoyed Campus Clubs and wanted to come back to volunteer. I immediately asked her if she would be interested in a teaching position, and she said yes!

After an interview with our Program Director and me, she was hired! It is so rewarding to see her as the leader in the classroom and how well our students are responding to her!”

We are grateful to be a recipient of the Macon Violence Prevention Grant! We are seeing positive changes in our students through our “Pathways to Peace” program.

Dr. King spoke of a nation where children would be judged by the content of their character. But character is molded by the community that surrounds you.
Today, we honor Dr. King’s life and legacy and encourage you to make a positive difference in Macon-Bibb County by volunteering with one of our 2026 community grant recipients. See our link in the comments for the list of sixteen local organizations working to uplift children and youth in our community. Read about their work, and reach out if you’re interested in becoming a volunteer or offering support!
