PurrBoxes activated this morning!!
These sweet babies were supposed to take a freedom ride this morning but we had to hit the brakes on that plan. :( Yesterday at their vet appointment they tested FIV+. For those who do not know, that is Feline AIDS. Their mother, Chalkie, is positive so it is likely that they are simply carrying her antibodies for a little while but we will keep testing them to get a true answer.
For cats, FIV used to be a death sentence but as time and research have continued, they have proven that cats can live long lives with this diagnosis. Most indoor cats are vaccinated against it. It can be spread through saliva and blood so fighting and sharing food can spread it to unvaccinated cats / colonies.
Until we can verify that these babies are not FIV+ like their snap test is showing, we will keep these babies in Rescue while we simultaneously searching for homes and /or Rescue partners that are FIV friendly.
