Sometimes all it takes is one person who believes in someone to change the direction of their life.

An inmate is more than their worst mistake. An addict is more than their addiction. Behind every struggle is a human being who has a story, pain, and the ability to grow.

A kind word, a second chance, a job opportunity, a safe place to live, or simply someone saying, “I believe in you,” can be the spark that helps someone choose a different path.

We don’t change lives by giving up on people. We change lives by showing compassion, offering support, and reminding people that redemption is possible.

Imagine the difference our communities could make if we stopped asking, “What did they do?” and started asking, “What can we do to help them become who they’re capable of becoming?”

One person. One chance. One life changed at a time. ❤️

This week we’ll explore “Under the Bridge” by the Red Hot Chili Peppers through the lens of mindfulness and recovery.

In the song, under the bridge becomes a place where addiction, loneliness, and old patterns can leave us feeling disconnected. Many of us have found ourselves in similar places, whether during active addiction, while facing cravings, or when life pulls us back toward familiar patterns that no longer serve us.

Together, we’ll look at the lyrics and discuss what they reveal about awareness, presence, and the possibility of change. Rather than judging where we’ve been, we’ll learn to notice where we are, recognize what we’re carrying, and practice taking one mindful step toward the life we want to build.

Our group share is modeled after AA and NA. What is shared in group stays in group.

We’ll end the evening with a mindfulness art activity inspired by the discussion.

For anyone unaware, Food Not Bombs - Lynchburg VA is at Miller Park (pool side for now) every Saturday from 11am-12pm with free hot meals, food, hygiene products, clothing, harm reduction supplies, and more! Its first come first serve and we often have a line of people by 10. Nothing required to get items simply show up and take what you need. Only time we cancel is due to weather so check our page for updates!
