๐ We are honored to celebrate Judge David Walker tomorrow as he marks an incredible 70 years of Kiwanis membership! ๐
Judge Walker began his Kiwanis journey in 1956, the same year he decided to return to school to pursue a law degree. He earned that degree from South Texas College of Law in 1959, launching a lifetime of service to the people of East Texas.
From 1964โ1969, Judge Walker served as Lufkinโs City Attorney, including three occasions when he was called upon to serve as Acting City Manager. In 1966, he was elected to the founding board of Angelina College, an institution that has since become a vital launching pad for success for countless East Texas students. Today, Judge Walker is the only living member of that original board.
In 1969, when Angelina Countyโs first state district courtโthe 159th Judicial Districtโwas created, Judge Walker was appointed as its first presiding judge. He served with distinction until his retirement in 1991. During his tenure, Judge Walker is credited with establishing the first adult and juvenile probation departments in Angelina County, leaving a lasting legacy of justice and rehabilitation.
Judge Walker is truly a county treasure and a living example of the Kiwanis motto. At 93 years young, he still faithfully attends every meeting, continuing his lifelong commitment to service.
Thank you, Judge Walker, for your unwavering dedication to the youth and citizens of Angelina County. ๐
