Typology does not impose upon history a fanciful framework (I.e., Jesus’ story) in an effort to make history conform to its likeness somehow. Typology simply looks at history for what it is and sees the Christ story that has been there all the time. History is not “just one damn thing after another.” History is Christ-shaped already. What typology is does is simply take the key for understanding all that has gone before (the Jesus’ story) and use it to make sense of how and why events in history and life are actually occurring as they are.
