I spent the morning supporting my favorites. Started at at 9 for their Saturday open art time. I did a botanical drawing of mint and rosemary from local community gardens and started to watercolor it… Then I hit up for some celebratory Easter treats. Next we went to to load up on produce from and got an amazing meatball mushroom sample from ! And then I finally got to have lunch at the new brick and mortar location for . To say I was excited is an understatement. and have sooooo many amazing local businesses to enjoy! 🤗

When we say we get practical experience at the Saturday service days we mean it! In March we had three separate service days where we taught volunteers from twelve years old to adults how to customize and repair drip irrigation. We have been able to improve the irrigation to maximize our growing space in four of the fourteen beds. So come on out and join us April 11 or 25th from 11-1 and hopefully we can get the rest of the beds done in April! Whatever skills we teach, we share to help all of us growing more produce at your own gardens!

We had our last Saturday workday of 2025 at the this morning! We will be open on Monday at 11 am if you’d like some collards, kale, parsley, rosemary, or green garlic for meals with your loved ones this holiday week!
Roots will be closed on Wednesday of course but we will be open again on Friday at 11!
Today we added worm p**p (the scientific word would be “castings” if you want to impress your friends 😆) and worms to the Garlic bed. We are trying a new thing at the Roots garden where we are copying the and ONLY planting Garlic in this bed. We somehow lose the garlic every year when we interplant it with leafy greens so we are actually trying their method and hoping for better results. 🤞🏻
Garlic is a heavy feeder though so you need to keep giving it food throughout the long growing season (November through May). We added worm castings I made at home with lots of worms in it and will follow up with blood or bonemeal anf a balanced organic fertilizer ~every month.
Anyone else out there growing garlic in west Texas? What’s your favorite way to feed it?

Drop off your pumpkins at the Peikert Farms farm stand and pick up some goodies while you’re there! 😋

Just a reminder that one person’s trash is a pig’s and chicken’s treasure! We would be so grateful to have your pumpkins when you are finished with them! They go a long way to feed our animals during the winter! You can drop them off in the trailer by the farmstand (if it’s not there when you stop by just put the on the east side of the house). We are also happy to pick them up if you just send us a message! Thanks everyone for supporting our little farm! Please feel free to share this post!
