Over the last two years, PBF’s Pan-Mass Challenge team has raised an impressive $101,000+ in the fight against cancer. With these funds, PBF has been able to establish the Patrick Beauregard Fund at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The Fund is managed under the direction of Dr. Kimmie Ng and benefits DFCI’s Young-Onset CRC Center. The Center - the first of its kind in New England and that of which Pat was the first face - has a threefold focus: (1) Provide expert, compassionate, and multidisciplinary care: (2) Conduct cutting-edge research; and (3) Increase awareness among clinicians and the public to improve prevention and early detection. These goals align with PBF’s goals to beat young-onset CRC through education, advocacy, and collaboration.

For 2024, PBF is excited to continue its support of the PMC and is proud to announce its expanded 11-rider team that will be participating alongside riders from all corners of the world in the annual bike-a-thon on August 3rd and 4th! Each rider will pedal the route while raising money to benefit the Patrick Beauregard Fund and Dr. Ng’s important work at DFCI in the fight against young-onset CRC.

With all this in mind, we invite you to visit the link in our bio to meet our 2024 riders and consider donating to help them reach their team-wide goal of $75,000 this year! Dr. Ng and her colleagues will do whatever it takes to make every cent raised as part of PBF’s PMC fundraising efforts count in maximizing progress against young-onset CRC. Want a concrete example of what exactly your donation helps to support? Check out the third picture to see the priority funding needs that the money raised through PBF’s PMC fundraiser will support within DFCI’s Young-Onset CRC Center.

The work being done by Dr. Ng and her colleagues holds great promise for patients everywhere, and it is happening because of our dedicated riders and our generous donors! Every dollar counts. And, together, we will get closer by the mile to a world without cancer.

Happy heavenly birthday 💙

The latest statistics show that colorectal cancer is now the deadliest type of cancer in men younger than 50 years old and the second leading cause of cancer death for women in the same age group. Possibly more startling, experts don’t know what is contributing to the surge in young-onset CRC. The main hypothesis is that some not-yet-identified environmental exposure is affecting individuals, starting in early life. According to Dr. Kimmie Ng, Patrick’s oncologist and the founding director of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s Young-Onset CRC Center: “The exposure perhaps occurs in utero, in infancy, or during childhood. That then predisposes us to cancers at an earlier age. A lot of work has been focused on what the environmental exposures may be and what they might be doing biologically to lead to cancer development at a younger age.” But, simply put, we really just don’t know.

Otherwise the picture of health, Patrick was diagnosed with Stage IV CRC at 29 years old and passed from the disease 3 years later at 32 years old. In honor of what would have been Pat’s 36th birthday earth side, please consider donating $36 to PBF. Every dollar counts and will help experts like Dr. Ng in their search for answers and a cure.

Last week, Team PBF met with Dr. Kimmie Ng to present an exciting $56,932 check to Dana Farber Cancer Institute’s Young-Onset Colorectal Cancer Center.

In memory of Patrick and in furtherance of PBF’s mission to beat young-onset CRC through education, advocacy, and collaboration, Team PBF remains dedicated to supporting the work of Dr. Kimmie Ng and DFCI’s YOCCC. The funds raised by our 8-rider 2023 Pan-Mass Challenge team will help to further research in young-onset CRC and advance the search for cures and prevention. We are immensely grateful to our donors, whose support is crucial to the success of the YOCCC in treating young patients with CRC and striving to find a cure for the disease.

If you’re interested in joining our 2024 team, it’s not too late! Reach out to [email protected] to learn more about how you can support PBF and help benefit Dr. Ng’s important work at DFCI in the fight against young-onset CRC.
