For Pillar #2 of our reading journey, we’re talking about Phonics.

Phonics bridges the gap between hearing a sound and seeing it written down. By teaching children how letters and sounds link together, we give them the keys to decode any word they come across—not just the ones they’ve memorized.

We’re honored to be recognized as a “Literacy Champion” at the inaugural JCPS Community Partner Awards Ceremony.

While we’ve never been in this work for awards, this recognition means so much because it reflects a shared commitment to our students, families, and community. We are in it for liberation through literacy, ensuring every child has equitable access to the tools, instruction, and opportunities they deserve!

To be acknowledged as a colleague, ally, and champion of JCPS is both humbling and affirming. Thank you to Jefferson County Public Schools for recognizing our mission and the collective work being done to move literacy forward across our city.
