Mark your calendars! Community Foundation of Louisville's Give For Good is coming up on Thursday, September 10! Since 1896, Neighborhood House has been a bustling community hub for Louisville’s west end.

In honor of 130 years of Neighborhood House, we are asking our community to join us in raising $130,000 on September 10th. With matching opportunities and special prize dollars available, every gift goes further.

"We are not built to turn people away. We were made to help people. So when we have to say, 'we're completely out of food. It'd be better to come back next week even though you're hungry this week,' that's really painful."

Shelves and freezers are empty in the food pantry here at Neighborhood House. More people are losing eligibility for SNAP benefits just as the federal government is reducing the amount it provides to regional food banks like Dare to Care Food Bank. Dare to Care distributes food to hundreds of local pantries, including ours.

From community adventures to college visits, coding to car repair, rollercoasters to roller skating, Dreamers' Academy 2026 gave more than 80 children and teens an incredible summer.

Providing an eight-week summer experience like this costs Neighborhood House about $2,500 per child—a cost that would never be passed on to families. Thanks to generous supporters, families pay $150 or less for the entire summer.

Thank you to the many individual donors, foundations, and community partners who make Dreamers' Academy possible.

A special thank you to the corporate partners who invest in our Youth Development Program year-round, including Genentech, Samtec Cares, LG&E and KU Foundation, and Heritage Engineering. Thank you for believing in our young people and making summers like this possible!

Over the past eight weeks, more than 80 children and teens—from first graders to recent high school graduates—have spent their summer learning, having fun, and building friendships at our all-day Dreamers' Academy summer camp.

During the end-of-summer celebration, youth members shared their talents through singing, dancing, poetry, and a drum line performance. They also organized an art showcase featuring paintings and 3D-printed creations made during STEAM labs. Several youth members were also recognized with special awards.

Families joined us to celebrate, and each child chose a backpack filled with school supplies provided by Joan to help start the new school year strong.

Shoutout to the kids who spent their summer with us, the dedicated staff who made these experiences possible, and our two Junior Leaders, Chase and Layla, who will be heading off to college in just a few weeks.

We can't wait to welcome everyone back when the Youth Development Program begins afterschool programming on August 10!

Last week the ingredients commonly found on our food pantry shelves took center stage as award-winning Chef Noam Bilitzer of MeeshMeesh Mediterranean transformed ingredients into a chef-inspired meal for families at Neighborhood House.

Dare to Care Food Bank wanted to help families discover new ways to cook with the ingredients they receive, so they called in the experts at MeeshMeesh! Chef Noam prepared dinner using only ingredients commonly found in our food pantry, including the often-overlooked lentils.

Families and senior citizens who attended the dinner got to talk to the chefs and received recipe cards. A cooking demonstration video by Chef Noam is also available for the community.

🎶"We learned our colors and our numbers
And how to write our names
We learned to be great friends
And other great things
Now we graduate, graduate, GRADUATE!" 🎶

Last week featured one of our favorite days of the year—preschool graduation! Fourteen preschoolers, some of whom have been at Neighborhood House since they were infants, are moving on to new adventures in kindergarten. The day included a graduation ceremony, a performance by the graduates, and a family celebration. Each family had a VIP table, and all kids received a backpack full of school supplies. We look forward to seeing many of these kids next year in the afterschool program!

Monday motivation!

The best motivation comes from believing in yourself and lifting up the people around you. Last week, middle schoolers created mirrors covered in positive affirmations to remind them of their strengths and worth. And teen leaders motivated our staff by surprising them with snacks and serving them lunch as a thank you for all they do.

Youth members at Neighborhood House are building confidence and making our community stronger this summer!
