Our Casa Esperanza - Pacoima Beautiful Chicas Girasoles and community members recently joined Councilmember Imelda Padilla for a cleanup at the Sepulveda Basin! Alongside hundreds of volunteers, we came together to care for our river, protect our environment, and beautify our community. Together, we collected more than 900 gallons of trash!

We’re proud to be part of a community that continues to show up and take action. After a morning of giving back, we enjoyed a delicious lunch from Gorditas Durango Thank you to everyone who volunteered and helped make this cleanup a success. We look forward to joining more community cleanups in the future!

This Día de los Mu***os, we came together at for Returning Home/Regresando a Casa, a celebration inspired by the journeys that bring us home.

Our theme drew inspiration from monarch butterflies and migratory birds that travel great distances to return to familiar places. We also honored three special birds: the hummingbird, a traditional symbol of ancestors and pollination; the house sparrow, a familiar sight in our valley; and the mourning dove, whose name and presence remind us of remembrance and grief.

In the same way, Día de los Mu***os reminds us of the importance of returning to our roots and keeping our loved ones close through the traditions and memories we carry. Months in the making, our celebration came to life through artwork created with recycled and reused materials, much of it made alongside our community. At the heart of it all was our commemorative community altar, a special place in our courtyard where we could come together to remember and honor those who are no longer with us.

Our community also helped create a collaborative box tower with the Corita Art Center and . Each box represents what Casa Esperanza means to the people who make it special. You can see the sculpture in person at Corita Day on November 7, from 12–4 PM at SCI-Arc!

We are so grateful to everyone who joined us and helped make this celebration so meaningful. This tradition holds a special place in our hearts, and being able to share it with our community is what makes it even more beautiful. Thank you for making Casa Esperanza a place where we can always find our way home.

This month, as part of our Every Body Outdoors Hiking Series, our youth and families hit the trails at beautiful Charmlee Wilderness Park in Malibu! We enjoyed the views, soaked up the sunshine, and made time to reconnect with nature. Everyone deserves access to the outdoors, and we’re excited to keep creating opportunities for our community to explore.

We have a few more hikes for 8th-12th grade students and their families before the end of the year! Register through the QR code or link in our bio.

This program is funded by the Outdoor Equity Grants Program, created through AB 209 and administered by California State Parks, Office of Grants and Local Services.

It’s crunch time as we get closer to our Día de los Mu***os celebration! 🌼

Our staff, community members, and volunteers have been hard at work bringing all the final details together. We’re so grateful for everyone who has given their time, creativity, and energy to help make this celebration special. We truly couldn’t do it without you!

Come see all the hard work for yourself on Monday, November 2, 2026. We can’t wait to celebrate Día de los Mu***os with our community and share everything we’ve been working on. See you there!

What stood out to our community members during their visit to Los Encinos State Historic Park? 🌿

As part of our Parks and Open Space Workshops, we brought community members together for a day of exploring, learning, and discovering more about the history of the San Fernando Valley. From the historic buildings to the surrounding park space, there was plenty to take in and learn about along the way. Hear directly from our community members as they share what caught their attention and what they enjoyed most about their visit!

A special thank you to our guides, Tatiana and Mark, for welcoming our group and sharing their knowledge with us. We’re also grateful to Councilwoman Imelda Padilla for helping provide bus transportation and making this experience possible for our community members.
