Next week, October 13–16, The American Institute on Disparities in Public Health (AIDPH) will recognize LGBTQIA+ Oral Health Week, highlighting this year's theme: Q***r Oral Health in All Health Policies.

Through research, community perspectives, and practical resources, the campaign explores how more inclusive policies and practices can help advance oral health equity.

A distinguished leader in dental education and Dean of the Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry, Dr. Farmer-Dixon has dedicated her career to advancing oral health, education, and opportunities for the next generation of oral health professionals.

Celebrating a legacy of leadership in dental education and public health.

Santa Fe Group member Dr. Linda Niessen founding dean of the Kansas City University College of Dental Medicine, is being honored through a campaign to endow the Linda C. Niessen, DMD, MPH, MPP, Founding Deanship.

Under Dr. Niessen’s leadership, KCU’s College of Dental Medicine was established in Joplin, Missouri, to help address critical dental workforce shortages and expand access to oral health care in rural and underserved communities across the region.

As the College’s inaugural class approaches graduation, the campaign recognizes Dr. Niessen’s leadership while helping to secure the future of this important work.

Congratulations to Dr. Niessen on this meaningful recognition and enduring contribution to dental education and oral health!

Twenty-five years later, remembrance also means continuing to learn.

On September 11, the Santa Fe Group remembers the lives lost, the survivors, first responders, families, and communities forever changed by the attacks.

We also recognize that the health consequences did not end that day. Decades of research continue to document the long-term physical and mental health effects experienced by people exposed to the World Trade Center disaster, including respiratory disease, cancer, PTSD, and other chronic conditions.

Twenty-five years later, their stories remind us that health is deeply human, and that caring for one another is a responsibility we all share.

As we mark 25 years, we honor not only those we lost, but those who continue to live with its consequences, and the researchers and health professionals working to understand them.

From remembrance to research, the work continues.
