Thank you to the Derelict Building Grant, City of Lone Tree, and the Lone Tree Community Foundation Inc - Phase 1 is complete!
Derelict Building Grant Project
City of Lone Tree
Lone Tree Community Foundation Inc
Frontier Pavilion, Lone Tree, Iowa
2026
Scope - Seal, stabilize and save the pavilion.
Step 1 – Clean logs with industrial cleanser and power wash to remove loose bark and debris and prepare for sealant.
Step 2 – Apply insect abatement containing sealant to prevent future insect damage to the entire structure. This was accomplished utilizing special PPG worn by the crew and isolating the area from the public. The driveway leading into the park was closed for this step and during the curing process. The sealant also adds stability to the logs.
Step 3 – This step was added by the contractor (Connerley Construction) at no additional cost. Stabilize the original benches that line the interior of the pavilion. The contractor recently completed another project of similar age and offered to use some of the wood from it to assist us with our restoration. The contractor and his crew evaluated each area of the bench and installed new wood support from the salvaged wood from a previous project.
Step 4 – Install supports in the ceiling beams where necessary to add additional strength to the structure and stabilize it. The contractor evaluated the logs and noted that they have hardened over time and that additional support will provide additional protection from strong winds.
Step 5 – Application of epoxy hardener to the column logs throughout the structure. The epoxy will cure over time providing support and will blend with the original color of the logs.
In addition, the Lone Tree Community Foundation, Inc., a partner in this project is continuing to work with other community groups such as the Lone Tree Lions Club to complete additional renovations to include sanding the interior benches, electrical and lighting installations, and new signage.
