On October 10, 1842 — 184 years ago this week — Iowa City Lodge No. 4 began.

Masons first met in Iowa City on January 13, 1842, in Dr. William Reynolds' school room along Iowa Avenue. Ten months later, the Grand Lodge of Missouri granted them a dispensation to confer degrees, making Iowa City the fourth and final lodge organized in Iowa Territory under Missouri authority.

In October 1843, the lodge received its Missouri charter as Lodge #63. Three months later, on January 8, 1844, it was installed as Iowa City Lodge No. 4 under the newly formed Grand Lodge of Iowa — the last of the four lodges that built Iowa Masonry from the ground up.

A 1910 Grand Lodge history calls Iowa City Lodge "that mother of Grand Masters." Six Grand Masters of Iowa have come from this lodge, beginning with James R. Hartsock in 1858.

Nearly two centuries later, we still meet in Iowa City and still labor in the same traditions.

Welcome, Brother Patrick T.!
Last night, Iowa City Lodge No. 4 had the pleasure of conferring the Entered Apprentice Degree upon Mr. Patrick T.
We were fortunate to have a wonderful group of Brothers in attendance to support the work. It was especially good to see Brother Jeremy R. with us, having received his own Entered Apprentice Degree only last week.
The work was well and faithfully done, and it was a fine evening of Masonic fellowship and labor.
A great night for Iowa City No. 4. We look forward to welcoming Brother Patrick as he continues his Masonic journey.

Last night, Iowa City Lodge No. 4 had the privilege of conferring the Entered Apprentice Degree on Jeremy R.

From the opening of the Lodge to the closing of the degree, the evening was filled with great fellowship, strong ritual, and the kind of energy that reminds us why we come together as Brothers.

The degree went exceptionally well, and we are grateful to every Brother who stepped forward to take part. A special thank you to our visiting Brothers who traveled to Iowa City and joined us for the evening. Your presence added something special to the night.

Most importantly, we are proud to welcome Brother Jeremy R. into Iowa City Lodge No. 4.
