Teamsters Local 700

We are proud to stand with Teamsters across the country in celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month!

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters is proud to observe September 15 – October 15 as Hispanic Heritage Month and celebrate the legacy of Hispanic Teamsters and workers in the labor movement.

From our General Executive Board to thousands of rank-and-file members, Hispanic Teamsters occupy every role in our union and play an indispensable part in winning the best contracts, organizing workers in new industries, and making our union the strongest in North America.

This month, we honor the sacrifices Hispanic Teamsters have made to make our union better for all. Through the dedicated work of the Teamsters Hispanic Caucus, we will continue to support and elevate Hispanic Teamsters and their families within our union.

Punishing our members for doing exactly what they are trained and required to do is an outrageous abuse of the court’s authority. At minimum, these deputies are owed an apology.

Judge John F. Lyke Jr. had ordered the deputies to remove the defendant's handcuffs so he could hug his family. The sheriff's office defended the deputies' actions, saying Lyke's "disrespectful and inappropriate treatment of our staff is completely unacceptable."

Local 700 members keep courtrooms safe across Cook County. A judge interfering with our members' ability to do their jobs is dangerous and unacceptable. Thank you to WGN TV for sharing our story.
