Tuesday June 9th @ Silver Lake Family Restaurant & Lounge

We had a special guest today who serves our Community to the fullest. Jason Mitchell is the Executive Director of Emmaus Mission Center and he came to America back in 2003 where he started at Emmaus as the Bookkeeper. His passion and love grew from there as he became the Executive Director several years after that and now has been serving our Community for over 18 years. Emmaus Mission Center has a Food Pantry, Thrift Store & Shelter in place and all three of these items are extremely needed in Cass County. The Thrift Store is open 3 days a week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9:00-2:00 and donations can be dropped off from 10:00-2:00. The Food Pantry runs Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11-1 and Wednesday evening 4:00-6:00 for those who can't get there during the day. Jason also is working on other projects with one being Logansport Street Outreach program. Emmaus also is having a Color Walk on June 27th at Riverside Park with a 9:00AM Start time.
Thank you Jason for all you do for Cass County.

Julie Gaumer & Lindsey Hagerty from Logansport School Corporation came and spoke to the club about the Tutoring Program. The Key Club Tutoring program was part of our past presidents' "project" and has been extremely successful for all kids involved. This program has made a huge difference/impact on our Key Club members plus the students that are being tutored. It's called LUNCH & LEARN where the kids who are being tutored can take a working lunch and sit down with a Key Club student to work on assignments or study for upcoming test. This gives the students opportunities to engage with other students on different subjects. The Key Club students get incentives to be a tutor and builds friendships amongst students.

We are extremely grateful as a club to have the update on this Tutoring program to go along with the Presidents Project and looking forward to more success stories this upcoming year. As you can see in the attachment, 64 students were requested for tutoring and 80% of those students throughout the semester maintained tutoring. Another great result was to see 70% of the tutoring students passed ALL Classes.

**On Tuesday, The Veteran Wall of Healing passed through Cass County so our very own MILT HESS & TOM NELSON put out 89 Flags for those on the route for this special occasion. We are not taking any more flag routes currently but did make an exception on this day for flags. Thank you to our fantastic leaders of our club to take care of this.

Today, we had our Annual Meeting at Silver Lake Family Restaurant & Lounge plus we received an update about our Annual Golf Meeting from Tom Nelson & we received an update on our Flag Program from Milt & Paul Gerni updated us with our Kiwanis Comfort Kart donations.

Our speaker today was Jerry Miller who gave an amazing historical speech about The USS Indianapolis (CA-35) that was a famed World War II U.S. Navy heavy cruiser known for her pivotal top-secret mission and one of the worst maritime disasters in U.S. military history. It was a day to remember our Veterans, current and past, as we just celebrated Memorial Day.

We also had 2 awesome Key Club members join us for lunch who was Radhe Patel and Nathalia Hernandez. These two have bright futures.

Tuesday May 5th at Silver Lake Family Restaurant & Lounge was our weekly Noon Kiwanis Meeting.

We were graciously joined by Bill Cuppy who is the President of the Logansport Cass County Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development. Bill came prepared with a plethora of knowledge about Cass County and we are always happy to hear what leaders have to say. First question Bill asked us was "how many businesses are in Cass County?".... The answer is approximately 1800. That is a large number for our Community and our Unemployment Rate is only 4% from the 18,000 employees in our Community which totals only 720 people. The Chamber gets several calls on a regular basis from people or businesses who are seeking out Logansport as their next town to Live, Work or Play in. They are asking questions about Traffic Count, Housing, School Systems, Population, Food & Religion among many other questions. Bill also touched on the many Housing Attractions that are coming to our area plus Business Attractions that are going to be happening. He did a big shout out to our Century Career Center at Logansport High School as this is a GEM for our Community as it has 22 different pathways and pulls children from several surrounding area schools. Thank you Bill for everything you do.

In addition to Bill Cuppy coming to speak, we had a guest PLUS 3 awesome ladies who represented Key Club. Natalie, Adison and Bella all have bright futures and we can't wait to see what their future holds.

Thank You

Tuesday April 28th at Silverlake we held our weekly Noon Kiwanis Meeting.

Our guest speaker was Matt Swisher who is a man of many hats. Matt is a vetted Community Leader in Cass County. Matt and his wonderful wife Katya are Caston Graduates and opened The Record Farm back in 2016. That wasn't enough for this power couple so they opened Vibrant Event Catering in 2017 and then went out on a limb to open Bonus Pints in 2021 right after the pandemic. Vibrant Event Center by Riverside Park is a great option for large events, weddings, receptions, corporate events and more. Artwork hangs throughout Vibrant Event Center & Bonus Pints featuring Jason McKeever Photographs as well as Jason Myers Artwork. They also have the Riverside Lounge attached to Vibrant Event Center where they can host approx 60 people for smaller gatherings. Matt recently went on Fox 59 news with a "feel good story" about Cass County and his adventures with the Record Farm and Bonus Pints. Thank You Matt for what you do in this community.

We also had a few guest with us from Logansport Key Club and these girls have bright futures when they go off to College. Thank you for joining us Sam, Lucy, & Ellison and we wish you the best in your future endeavors.

Tuesday April 21st at Silverlake

Today, we had our normal lunch meeting where we talked about several things including Kiwanis Annual Golf Outing May 19th at Dykeman Golf Course and we talked about our upcoming Flag Program with placing over 400 flags out throughout Logansport.

We were also joined by 3 great students from Logansport High School Key Club named Riley, Amilia & Ava and these girls have great future plans. Kailin Bauman also joined us as our guest speaker

Kailin is the Wellness Director at Steinbarger Construction and she has a passion for helping people succeed in their goal. Everyone’s mind has different meanings of the word “wellness”. Wellness is NOT a one size fits all and it’s NOT complicated, NOT a fad or a passive way of life. As early as the 1940’s the World Health Organization described Wellness as The State Of Complete Physical, Mental, and Social Well-Being, Not Merely The Absence of Disease. There are generally 8 dimensions of wellness. Spiritual, Physical, Emotional, Occupational, Financial, Social, Intellectual, Environmental.

Thank you Kailin for all the Wellness Information

Tuesday April 14th at Silverlake Restaurant, we had 2 Key Club Members from Logansport High School, Joselyn Marcial & Julia Espinoza as well as Jackson Wisele’s, Director of Wastewater.

Jackson Wiseley has been with Logansport Utilities for about 12 1/2 years. Longevity is one of the proud things that Logansport Utilities can say about their employees. Jackson started on the outside crew and worked his way up to Supervisor in 2019. Since then, he took on a new position November of 2024 as the Director of Wastewater

He talked about several projects that Logansport Utilities have going on throughout town. Some of the data that Jackson talked about was that Tyson is their #1 contributor to Wastewater and that the total number of gallons in 2025 was 2,230,000,000.

There is a rebranding coming which is Water Treatment Facility instead of Waste Water which sounds much more appealing to the public and is hoping to entice the younger candidates.

Thank you for joining us Jackson and Key Club Members

Tuesday we had a Ryan Bolhuis from the Incubator Kitchen with the Cass County Community Foundation. His official title is Executive Director of Culinary Education and Entrepreneurship
Cass County Community Foundation

Ryan has a great history behind him with leaving in a variety of places and being an entrepreneur, and he truley believes that their is POWER IN FOOD. If you are having a GOOD DAY then food will help you have a BETTER DAY and if you are having a BAD DAY then food will help you to have a GOOD DAY. He uses high quality ingredients and he feels that it is very rewarding to help people in any way whether it comes to harvesting fruits/vegetables or hleping someone start a business and be an enterprenuer like himself.

What is an Incubator Kitchen? This is a LARGE Shared Commercial Kitchen where you can "prep" food for your business in a facility that is food certified. Ryan wants to reach the community through food and provide educational workshops. Also down at the new Incubator Kitchen is a large pavilion that is covered and has awesome lighting that can be used. The community will be able to rent the space for events, weddings, gatherings of any kind & you will find the Farmers Market Down there as well.

Great things are happening in Logansport and we are excited to have Ryan in our Community.

Along with Ryan we had 2 guest from the Logansport Highschool Key Club named Sofia Herrera & Madilie Fanco.
