Grateful for the opportunity to be part of a powerful national conversation around foster care and family stability in Washington, D.C.

Made possible by the Flourish Fund, this gathering brought together nearly 30 leaders from across the country to reimagine what’s possible for children and families in a time that calls for bold, community-led solutions.

Karen Phillips, COO of Restore Hope, shared how the Restore Hope Model equips communities to work together in a structured, collaborative way. It aligns resources, measures outcomes, and surrounds families with the support they need to move from crisis to stability.

Hosted by Unspoken and Dream Knitting, the group also spent time reflecting on a recent study exploring the foster care journey through the eyes of a child—highlighting the challenges and system gaps families face every day. While the findings were sobering, they also revealed opportunities to improve how communities respond and better support families.

We’re looking forward to bringing these insights back to the communities we serve and continuing the work of building stronger systems, together.

Behind every statistic is a mother trying to hold things together. Housing instability, childcare gaps, transportation barriers, and mental health struggles often overlap in ways that can leave families feeling isolated and overwhelmed.

Many of our beliefs are formed when we’re children — shaped by family, culture, churches, schools, and the trusted adults around us. But healing and growth sometimes begin when we stop and ask: “What if this cycle doesn’t have to continue?”

Breaking generational trauma often means building entirely new ways of thinking, parenting, communicating, and coping. That isn’t easy. It takes awareness, support, and the courage to create a different path forward.

The Miller Cottages of Community Rescue Mission celebrated their ribbon cutting today—marking a new pathway forward for families moving from homelessness toward homeownership.

These transitional homes are designed to create a foundation for long-term stability.

Virgil Miller of Arvest Bank shared what makes this model different: "they won't be left alone." Families who move in will be surrounded by a system of support—learning financial skills, building savings, and even earning grants to help cover down payments and closing costs for their future homes.

The Miller Cottages are a stepping stone from crisis to thriving in housing.

We are proud of all the hard working, compassionate people who have contributed to this project and are excited for what this will mean for families in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
