54th Stone Mountain Highland Games and Scottish Festival | October 16 - 18, 2026 Established in 1973, the Stone Mountain Highland Games and Scottish Festival is one of the oldest international festivals to take place in the Metro Atlanta area. It is very popular in the community and routinely draws participants from all over the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom (including Scotland, Northern Ireland and England), Ireland, Australia, and other parts of the world.

Happy Samhain or Halloween from the Stone Mountain Highland Games

Like many ancient festivals, Samhain continued with the coming of Christianity. November 1st was henceforth to be All Saints Day. The night before was Eve of All Saints Day, or the Eve of All Hallows. But while the name might have changed, old habits persisted. Halloween was a time when witches and warlocks might walk abroad, engaged in wicked practices. In many parts of Scotland it was customary to leave an empty chair and a plate of food for invisible guests. People believed that it was the night when the souls of the dead were set free to roam. They might come into their houses and eat at their tables. The hour before midnight was the witching hour when the departed returned. Silence was marked as the chimes of midnight rang out.
Its not hard to understand why, in Scotland of all places, Halloween continued to be important. Much of the nations history involves the supernatural. From the witches of Macbeth as imagined by William Shakespeare to the real burning of women, accused of working with the devil, in a rash of satanic trials during the seventeenth century. There is a special atmosphere in many parts of Scotland even to this day where, as daylight fades, the flames of Halloween bonfires show up ancient ramparts of castles and buildings where devilish deeds once may have been done.

What is Super Crew?

Stone Mountain Highland Games is an all-volunteer organization. From planning, to setting up the field, to running the competition, shows, and exhibit, and take down, we all donate our time and talents to make SMHG the best and friendliest highland event this side of the pond.
Every area has its dedicated volunteers who come out year after year and put in the time to make their part perfect. The largest group is the setup / take down or Grounds committee. These are the people who come to the park starting the weekend before and start setting up everything you see. From the roped event fields, to the dance platforms, entertainment stages, distributing tables and chairs, and setting up clan tents, these individuals come out, do the physical labor all the way to Games Saturday. After enjoying Saturday, some volunteers begin the process of take down. Everything you see has to be disassembled and put back in the storage trailers. By 5:00, the volunteers have put away their kilts and the process is in full swing. Normally, most of the “toys” are put away by 10:00 Sunday night so the team breaks for a pizza party.

While most of the “toys” are in the trailers, there is still a lot to do to clear the field by 6:00 pm on Monday. In comes the Super Crew. This hearty group has to give one more day to complete the take down, prepare rental equipment to be returned and the trailers and put back and closed. We have a closing ceremony to formally end SMHG for the year. That is Super Crew

Stone Mountain Highland Games and Scottish Festival has been bringing Scottish culture to the Meadows of Stone Mountain Park for 54 years. Thanks to our Board and Volunteers, we have grown from a few tents in a horse pasture to a premier festival spanning over 7 acres. Beginning October 29th at Stone Mountain Park in Georgia, the annual Native American Festival & Pow Wow kicks off four days of colorful traditions, live entertainment, and hands-on activities through November 1st, 2026! Held in the park’s Historic Square, this is Georgia’s largest Native American gathering and one of the biggest fall events of its kind in the area. You can watch Native American dancers dressed in beautiful traditional regalia, hear powerful drum performances, enjoy storytelling, and see artists making pottery, baskets, and other handmade crafts. Walk through a living-history village, explore traditional tipis, and watch demonstrations of bow making, flint-knapping, fire starting, and cooking over an open flame. The festival also features a marketplace filled with Native American artwork, jewelry, and handmade goods. The American Eagle Foundation will even be there with educational birds-of-prey presentations! On Saturday and Sunday, dancers and drummers from across the United States and Central America compete, with Grand Entry at 12:30 p.m. each day. Hours are 9–3 Thursday and Friday and 10–5 Saturday and Sunday. Festival-only tickets are available, and Mountain Members enter free.

Before everyone returns to their normal lives, Stone Mountain Highland Games would like to thank everyone who joined us on the meadow this year. The bands were incredible, the competitions were spirited, the exhibitions were fascinating, Clan Row was like a family homecoming, and the music was memorable. The Saturday and Sunday’s weather was perfect. One could not have asked for a better weekend. We truly are glad you joined us to make 2026 a very special year.

To all of the incredible volunteers who worked tirelessly to make Stone Mountain happen, one cannot say enough. Thank you for your efforts and hard work. Our annual family reunion may have ended for this year, but we cannot wait for the next.
