KEY MESSAGE
Yesterday, a strong thunderstorm passed through the fire area bringing strong wind and a brief burst of rain. During the storm, firefighters and air resources briefly disengaged from the fire for firefighter and aircraft safety. Large and very large aircraft dropped fire retardant along the southern edge to keep the fire from spreading into the adjacent drainage.

CURRENT STATUS
Yesterday, firefighters anchored the fire along the Pleasant Valley Fisher River on the northwestern edge of the fire. From this anchor point, dozers and hand crews established fire line along the fire edge. Air resources continued to support suppression efforts along the southern edge.
Today, Northern Rockies Team 9, Type 3 Incident Management Team, assumed command of the Deer Creek Fire. Crews will continue to construct lines from the anchor point along the flanks towards the head of the fire. Firefighters are placing hose lays along fire lines to aid suppression efforts. More heavy equipment is arriving today to clear roads to provide safe access to the fire area and construct control lines. Air resources will continue supporting ground suppression efforts with water and fire retardant drops.

WEATHER AND FIRE BEHAVIOR
Elevated fire weather conditions are expected today due to gusty southwest winds, although the minimum relative humidity will be higher than previous days. Today, will be partly cloudy early then mostly sunny. Maximum temperature will be 79 degrees. Drier air is expected this afternoon lasting into tomorrow. There is a slight chance for morning showers although no precipitation is expected this afternoon.

EVACUATIONS AND CLOSURES
There are no evacuations or closure orders at this time. We ask members of the public to avoid the Pleasant Valley Area to allow emergency access by responders and ensure firefighter and public safety.
