As more information continues to emerge from the tragic events in Billings, we have learned that a Billings Airport Firefighter lost his wife, children, and other family members in this heartbreaking tragedy.

His fellow firefighters have come together to support Adam and have established a GoFundMe to help him navigate the unimaginable days ahead.

Wishing everyone a safe, fun, and memorable Independence Day weekend!
Quick friendly reminder on fireworks so everyone can have a great (and legal) time:

Permissible consumer fireworks are allowed on July 4 from 8:00 a.m. to midnight on private property you own or have permission to use.

No fireworks on public property (parks, sidewalks, trails, streets, or alleys).

Please clean up all debris, littering is not allowed.

Kids under 10 need direct adult supervision (within 10 feet).

Professional-grade display fireworks require special approval from the Fire Chief or Fire Marshal.

Weather can change things quickly, so please check with Lewistown Fire Rescue before lighting anything. They’re the best source for the latest info and any weather-related updates.

Fireworks Rules in Lewistown – Check Before You Light!
If you’re planning anything fireworks-related in Lewistown, check with Lewistown Fire Rescue first. The rules were updated in 2018 (Ordinance 1758).

✅ PERMISSIBLE FIREWORKS ARE ALLOWED (limited consumer/common fireworks - excluding bottle rockets, roman candles, and sky rockets) only on these dates/times unless banned:

July 4: 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. (midnight)
December 31: 10:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. January 1

Strict additional rules apply:

✔️Only on private property you own or have permission to use - NOT in any city park, on sidewalks, trails, streets, alleys, public right-of-way, or airport property.
✔️No littering - it is illegal to leave debris from discharged fireworks on public property or on anyone else’s private property.
✔️Kids under 10: A parent, guardian, or custodian must provide direct supervision (present, immediately available, within 10 feet, and controlling the flame/lighting at the time of discharge).

❌ PROHIBITED at all times inside city limits (except for specially permitted professional public displays):

❌Discharge, storage, or sale of professional pyrotechnic/display fireworks or explosives
❌Discharge of fi****ms or similar devices using blank cartridges or caps containing chlorate or potash mixtures
❌Possession of fireworks that do not qualify as permissible

The only exception: The Fire Chief or Fire Marshal may permit a public fireworks display if it is run by a properly qualified individual, supervised by fireworks experts, and located so it does not create a hazard to surrounding property or people.

Bottom line: Limited personal use of permissible fireworks is allowed only during those holiday windows, only on private property, with mandatory cleanup and close supervision of young children. No fireworks of any kind on public property.

Professional-grade displays require special approval. When in doubt - or if weather looks risky - contact Lewistown Fire Rescue before planning or lighting anything.
