Congratulations to the Leadership Central Montana Class of 2026 on their recent graduation earlier this month!

Since September, this dedicated group has met monthly to grow as leaders and deepen their understanding of Central Montana’s opportunities and challenges. The program explored a wide range of topics, including economic development, healthcare, education, local government, and community leadership. Participants also engaged in meaningful leadership development discussions on areas such as conflict resolution, Enneagrams, personal values, and the distinction between leaders and managers—along with many other valuable skills they can carry forward in their personal and professional lives.

Throughout the program, the class had the opportunity to visit and learn from communities across the region, including Hobson and Winifred, gaining insight into the unique strengths and needs of our rural areas. Tours—such as the new cancer center and other key community assets—helped bring these conversations to life and highlighted the impact of collaboration and investment in our communities.

A sincere thank you to the many presenters, panelists, tour hosts, and partners who generously shared their time, expertise, and perspectives to make this program possible.

We are proud of each graduate for their commitment to leadership and their investment in the future of Central Montana. We look forward to seeing the continued impact this class will make in their communities.

What is a brownfield? It’s more than just a definition—it’s an opportunity. Brownfield properties are often underutilized sites where redevelopment may be complicated by real or perceived environmental concerns. But with the right resources, these challenges can be addressed.

Through environmental assessment, cleanup, and strategic planning, these sites can be transformed into safe, productive spaces that support economic growth and community development. From vacant buildings to former industrial sites, brownfields hold the potential to become housing, businesses, healthcare facilities, and more.

At Snowy Mountain Development, we’re proud to help communities navigate this process and turn overlooked properties into valuable community assets.

Big news from Snowy Mountain Development!

SMDC will be moving at the end of the month to our new location at 202 4th Ave S in Lewistown. We’re excited for this next step, though the building will need some improvements, and our team will be operating in the space while renovations take place. We appreciate everyone’s patience as we work through the transition over the coming months.

Our long-term vision is to redevelop the facility into a regional training center and business incubation space. Business incubation supports entrepreneurs and early-stage companies by providing mentorship, training, shared resources, and affordable workspace, helping new ideas grow into sustainable businesses. The training center will also support the broader region by hosting workshops, workforce development programs, leadership trainings, and regional meetings.

We’re excited about the opportunities this space will create for Central Montana. More updates to come!

Serving ranchers and rural communities across the region, KJ Welding & Fabrication is a veteran-owned, family-operated welding business in Musselshell County.

With support from Montana’s State Small Business Credit Initiative 2.0 Loan Participation Program at Commerce and Snowy Mountain Development, Kyle and Justina Marshall recently built a new shop near the family home. This investment is boosting production, creating local jobs and keeping essential welding services available in the area.

Businesses can access the SSBCI 2.0 Loan Participation Program–Recycled Funds through participating lenders. The application is open and will remain so for the duration of the program, with capital availability contingent on repayments from existing borrowers.
