🧙‍♀️ The Witch. The Saint. And a story told without a single word. Steven Reineke’s The Witch and the Saint is one of the pieces we’re bringing to life for Once Upon a Time — and if the title sounds dramatic, just wait until you hear the music. 👀 Dark. Mysterious. Beautiful. And exactly the kind of musical storytelling that belongs in an evening built around imagination and adventure.

🎶 Do you remember the first piece of band music you really loved? We asked our musicians that question recently, and one answer feels especially fitting as we prepare for Once Upon a Time...

For BWS clarinetist Sarah Wilder, it was Percy Grainger’s Children’s March. Years later, she’s playing it again — this time with the Buffalo Wind Symphony as part of our November 14 concert. ❤️ Funny how some music stays with you. What’s the first piece you remember loving?

Wednesday nights might be our favorite. 🎶 For some of us, it’s the one night a week we don’t think about work. For others, it’s where we see friends, challenge ourselves or rediscover an instrument we once put away. And tonight, it’s another step closer to Once Upon a Time.❤️

Now we want to hear from you: 🎬 Movie Music or 🥁 Marches? Defend your choice in the comments!"

What brings musicians back to rehearsal week after week? 🎶 We asked BWS Musicians, and the answers had a lot less to do with notes on a page than you might think: “My respite from the world.” “My personal fountain of youth.” “A two-hour break from whatever life is throwing at me.” “Music is good for my soul.” Different instruments. Different stories. One place we keep coming back to. ❤️ What does making music give you?

We’re back! 🎶 Tonight is our first rehearsal of the new season, and we’re kicking things off with the music of 'Once Upon a Time'. New music. Familiar faces. Probably a little rust. 😆 And the start of another BWS season together. Musicians: what are you most excited to get back to tonight?

Today, the Buffalo Wind Symphony pauses to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, honors the courage of those who answered the call, and hold in our hearts the families forever changed.

Twenty-five years later, we remember. We will never forget.
