Wendy,
Thank you for all that you do for the Levittown VFW Post 9592, the Levittown VFW Auxiliary to Post 9592, and, most especially, the Levittown community. Through your dedication, generosity, and welcoming spirit, you and Joe help create a safe and enjoyable place where families, friends, and neighbors can come together, make memories, and enjoy the summer months as a true community.
As President of the VFW Auxiliary, and on behalf of our Auxiliary members, I extend our heartfelt thanks to you, Joe, and the community for the generous donation of $170 in support of our ongoing work. The VFW Auxiliary is proud to serve our veterans, active-duty service members, their families, and our local community through acts of service, remembrance, advocacy, and fellowship. Your kindness helps us continue these meaningful duties and carry forward our mission with pride and purpose.
With more than 90 dedicated members, our Auxiliary remains committed to honoring those who have served and to supporting the Levittown community in ways both seen and unseen. We are truly grateful to people like you and for the Food Truck Friday’s family, whose compassion, generosity, and community spirit remind us how much good can be accomplished when caring people come together.

Last night at Food Truck Friday at VFW Post 9592, the Auxiliary held a Buddy Poppy and Membership Drive. I had the good fortune of being assisted by Gavin, an outstanding young man whose dedication to veterans, their families, and our Auxiliary deserves recognition. Throughout the evening, Gavin showed respect, patriotism, and a willingness to help wherever needed. He stayed after the event to assist the vendors without being asked, reflecting the kind of character and service that can inspire other young people to give back to their communities.
Gavin shared that it has been his lifelong dream to serve his country by joining the Air Force and flying an F-15. Thank you, Gavin, for all you do and for being a wonderful example of true patriotism, service, and concern for those who serve, have served, and made the ultimate sacrifice. As you enter 9th grade, we wish you continued success in pursuing your dreams and hope your example encourages other young people to lead with respect, kindness, and service.

I wanted to share this opportunity with any veterans who may be interested in participating in an upcoming fishing trip on August 19th. Please note that registration is due by tomorrow, so anyone interested is encouraged to sign up as soon as possible. Additional details are available in the attached flyer.

Today we joined others for the Veterans Food Drive and Valor Walk, sponsored by Elaine Phillips, County Comptroller, Sen. Steve Rhoads, and the Nassau County Office of Veterans Services Agency.

A fruitful amount of food and other staples were collected by all in attendance. The food was brought to the Vetmart for our veterans and their families in need. Followed by a walk around Salisbury Lake. A little hot but glorious response by supporters of our veterans. Four members of the auxiliary attended with the Commander and one member of VFW Post to 9592. Great job done by all.

National Purple Heart Day is recognized annually on August 7th to honor the men and women of the United States Armed Forces who were wounded or killed as a result of enemy action while serving our nation. The history of this distinguished honor dates back to August 7, 1782, when General George Washington established the Badge of Military Merit during the American Revolutionary War. Created to recognize uncommon valor, devotion, and sacrifice among enlisted soldiers and non-commissioned officers, the Badge of Military Merit became the forerunner of what we know today as the Purple Heart.
Purple Heart Day was established to ensure that the courage and sacrifice of Purple Heart recipients are never forgotten. The heart-shaped medal, bearing the image of George Washington and the color purple long associated with courage, stands as a lasting symbol of patriotism, resilience, and selfless service. On this solemn and meaningful day, VFW Auxiliary 9592 joins a grateful nation in honoring our Purple Heart recipients. We extend our deepest gratitude to each of you for your service to our country, for the hardships you endured, and for the sacrifices you made in defense of the freedoms we cherish.
