Over the course of six weeks, students engage in classroom lessons focused on practical economic education, learning how to write checks, use debit cards, maintain a checkbook register, apply for jobs, and work collaboratively. These foundat
ional skills are brought to life during a day-long visit to Commerce Plaza, where students are assigned roles in one of 12 simulated businesses. They earn paychecks, manage money, and interact with peers as they explore various career opportunities and gain insight into the real-world economy. The program encourages children to recognize that with education and determination, their futures are full of possibilities. It also emphasizes socialization and independence, serving children of all academic levels and abilities. Commerce Plaza aligns with New York State learning standards, ensuring students receive both an educational and meaningful experience.
