We educate. We advocate. We listen. We lead.

Who We Are

NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. What started as a small group of families gathered around a kitchen table in 1979 has blossomed into the nation's leading voice on mental health. Today, we are an association of hundreds

of local affiliates, state organizations and volunteers who work in your community to raise awareness and provide support and education that was not previously available to those in need. NAMI relies on gifts and contributions to support our important work. Offered in thousands of communities across America through our NAMI State Organizations and NAMI Affiliates, our education programs ensure hundreds of thousands of families, individuals and educators get the support and information they need. NAMI shapes the national public policy landscape for people with mental illness and their families and provides grassroots volunteer leaders with the tools, resources and skills necessary to save mental health in all states. Our toll-free NAMI HelpLine allows us to respond personally to hundreds of thousands of requests each year, providing free referral, information and support—a much-needed lifeline for many. Public awareness events and activities, including Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW), NAMIWalks and other efforts, successfully combat stigma and encourage understanding. NAMI works with reporters on a daily basis to make sure our country understands how important mental health is.

Caregivers know that every person living with schizophrenia faces a unique set of daily challenges and treatment experiences. A treatment that helps one person may not be a good fit for another. This is why it is important to learn about all treatment options, including long-acting injectables (LAIs), so that we can all have informed discussions with our healthcare providers about individualized treatment plans.

06/23/2026

Did you know that there are long-acting injectable (LAI) treatment options for schizophrenia that do not require a daily pill schedule? Learn more about LAIs and how they may be an appropriate part of comprehensive care.

Schizophrenia is a complex mental health condition that is widely misunderstood and stigmatized. It’s important that we all hear from people living with the condition as well as their care partners to understand the real story behind the challenges and success of the treatment journey, including how long-acting injectable treatment options may be an appropriate part of comprehensive care.

Let’s work together to break stigma!

Father’s Day can bring joy, gratitude, grief, longing, love, and complicated emotions all at the same time.

Today, we’re holding space for the dads, the father figures, those missing their fathers, those navigating strained relationships, those longing to become parents, and everyone carrying a story that may not be visible to others.

Whatever this day looks like for you, your experience is valid. 💙

You don’t have to have it all figured out.
Healing isn’t about conquering the entire staircase. It’s about taking the next step, then the next one after that.
One day. One conversation. One step at a time. 💚
