Hey there! Happy 913 Day! Today, we're rallying everyone to pitch in $9.13 via Venmo to support the work of Labor of Love KC. We're fueled entirely by your generosity! This money is going straight towards crafting care baskets and offering continuous aid to families navigating the challenges of pre and post Pre-Eclampsia, NICU stays, and other birth complications. And here's the kicker: each person who sends $9.13 will be in the running for a Made in KC gift card! Let's make a difference together!

Hello, friends! As we embrace NICU Awareness Month, we're committed to going above and beyond for our NICU families and dedicated staff throughout this entire month. However, we can't do it aloneβ€”we're reaching out to you for support!

If you can, please consider sending $5 via Venmo today or tomorrow. By doing so, you'll automatically be entered for a chance to win a Sumit Grill gift card! And here's the exciting part: every $5 contribution counts as one entry. (For instance, if you donate $25, that's a generous five entries!)

Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to each and every one of you for your incredible support. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Miles and Felix were born at 33+3 via emergency c-section due to my superimposed preeclampsia. 4lbs 8oz and 4lbs 8.5oz our tiny fighters came into the world earlier than we would have liked but were strong from the start. Felix never needed supplemental oxygen and Miles only for a few hours after birth. I had to wait 24 excruciating hours to meet them due to my magnesium drip.
We were beyond thankful that the boys had a relatively uneventful nicu stay and were primarily feeders and growers. Apart from some Bradys with Miles we had no complications and the boys grew wonderfully. The routine felt awkward at first, as a first time mom I had significant imposter syndrome during our stay. I wanted to be there all hours but knew I needed to rest at home. I know if at least 2 nights my husband drove me back sobbing at 10pm because I ached not being with them. Gradually, we found or rhythm between pumping, nursing, snuggles, and naps. And just when we got comfortable with our routine I came in one morning and both the boys had taken all feeds orally for 24 hours - which means going home was happening soon!
We spent 5 long weeks in the nicu and were discharged just in time for thanksgiving. While the nicu was an incredibly difficult experience I look back so grateful for it now. I was able to heal from my c-section, I learned SO so much about all things breastfeeding (s/o to my fav lactation nurse Carol!), and how to be a mom. Because I had no idea what I was doing.
To this day I still keep a preemie diaper in their dresser drawer, and their name signs from the hospital still hang on their bedroom door. Miles and Felix turn 2 next month and are thriving! Oh! I should also note that at one point Felix held the longest record in the unit for not pulling out his feeding tube πŸ˜‚ Miles did not. He was constantly pulling that thing out.

We Celebrate the rainbow
We Acknowledge the hope
We Honor the loss

Today, we gather to celebrate the vibrant promise of the rainbow, a symbol of hope that shines even after the storms have cleared. We also take a moment to remember the precious souls who touched our lives briefly, yet left a deep mark that stays with us.
