Fishtown is a collection of weathered fishing shanties, smokehouses, overhanging docks, fish tugs and charter boats along the Leland River in Leland, Michigan. The heart of a commercial fishing village, Fishtown is one of the only places where we can still see and feel a connection to the long tradition of Great Lakes maritime culture.

Join us in Leland this Saturday, June 20th for a couple hours of good work, good people, and a few well-earned perks. Let's come together to help clean up Leland and spend intentional time caring for a place we all love.

Attendees can look forward to complimentary snacks and drinks throughout the morning, door prizes from local businesses, sun care products from Valor Skincare , a space to connect with others in the community.

The Art Shanty welcomes back Chris Schmidt of Studio 13!

A Leelanau County native now calling Houghton home, Chris brings together the best of two beloved Michigan places in his bold graphic artwork. Inspired by the outdoors, his designs celebrate the landscapes, recreation, and character of both Leelanau and the Upper Peninsula.

His work captures the places, adventures, and outdoor spirit that make these regions so special—from quiet shoreline moments to the rugged beauty of the U.P.

Stop in through June 22 to meet Chris, see his latest work, and maybe find the perfect piece to bring a little Michigan adventure home with you.

We had a wonderful time sharing Fishtown with Matt Young and his granddaughter Lucy today. She loved everything about the riverscape: the water, the fish, the spiders, the boats, and the shanties.
