PORCH COLLECTION — Friday, August 28- A full backpack isn't enough.

Most people think hunger looks like empty shelves and bare cupboards.

But in Brunswick County, it looks like a child sitting in a classroom, staring at the board, unable to focus — because they haven't eaten since yesterday.

1 in 5 children in North Carolina faces food insecurity. That's not a statistic from somewhere else. That's children right here. Children heading back to school this month with new backpacks, fresh supplies, and empty stomachs.

A backpack full of pencils doesn't fix that. But we can.

This is what PORCH Brunswick Forest exists for. Every donation collected this Friday goes directly to local pantries making sure Brunswick County children and families don't go without.
Here's how to show up:

💳 Give directly — Your dollars give PORCH the flexibility to meet the most urgent needs of our local pantries.

📦 Donate food — Leave nonperishables on your coordinator's porch by Friday, August 28. Watch for their email — it'll include exact drop-off details and what's most needed right now.

🤝 Volunteer — PORCH runs entirely on people like you. Consider becoming a Neighborhood Coordinator and bringing this work to even more neighbors.

One bag of groceries. A few dollars. Multiply that by an entire neighborhood and you've just changed something real for a child heading back to school.

They deserve to walk into that classroom ready to learn — not fighting hunger.

Today we shine our spotlight on Brunswick Family Assistance. BFA is devoted to improving the lives of families and individuals in crisis in Brunswick County by providing critical assistance to those working towards self-sufficiency. In 2025, BFA served 38,474 Brunswick county residents, distributing 547,227.53 pounds of food.

🎉 A big shout-out to the Peninsula neighborhood in Brunswick Forest for collecting an incredible 200 pounds of food during their July social outing at Throw Coast Disc Golf in Leland!
What a wonderful way to bring neighbors together while giving back to the community. Their event combined great company, disc golf, food, drinks, and a shared commitment to helping local families in need.

We support the Leland Senior Center with our monthly food drives.

The Leland Center would love for you to come check their fitness room out! They are open Monday–Friday from 8am to 4pm, and it’s the perfect place to get in shape, stay active, and have fun. These ladies encourage you to take the step & get active with them 💪

All of our other senior centers also have fitness rooms. Come join the movement!

Neighbors helping neighbors — this Friday, July 24th
This Friday, we feed our neighbors.

Somewhere in Brunswick County, a family is deciding between groceries and gas. A parent is stretching a can of soup across three meals. Their kids are out of school now, no hot breakfast, no cafeteria lunch, just whatever's left in the pantry.

We can fix that. This Friday, July 24th.

Here's how: Drop non-perishable food, cash, or a check on your neighborhood Coordinator's porch. That's it. Just show up!

Every can. Every dollar. Every check. It all goes straight to someone right here in our community who needs it.

This month, we're spotlighting one of the 7 organizations Porch Brunswick Forest supports: Mother Hubbard's Cupboard.
35 years. Zero paid staff. Hundreds of volunteers show up, day after day, because they believe one thing: nobody walks through their doors and leaves hungry.

That kind of commitment deserves ours.

Friday, July 24th. Your porch. Their doorstep of hope.

Three years. $10,280 raised. All of it staying local.

Our latest Shop 4 A Cause fundraiser at Sandalwood Shoppes just wrapped, and we're still buzzing. Sixteen neighborhoods sold 367 tickets between them, pulling in $4,090 for families facing hunger.

Shelmore, Cypress Point I, II and Townhomes, Belshaw, Park Landing I, II and III, Collingwood, Osprey Landing, Walden, Garden Wood, Jefferson Landing, Evangeline, and Tennyson Village. You did that!

And then there's Andy Abramowitz. Andy sold 80 tickets on her own. We'll just let that sink in.

Every dollar goes straight to seven local organizations doing real work right here: Brunswick Community College, Brunswick Family Assistance, Hope Harbor Homes, Leland Senior Center, Manna Ministries, Mother Hubbard's Cupboard, and Town Creek Elementary.

Thank you to every neighborhood, every seller, every single person who bought a ticket. You're the reason seven organizations can keep showing up for families here. Want your neighborhood on this list next year? Message us. 🧡
