Wilmington Animal Centrix Mission Statement: Ending pet homelessness one spay and neuter at a time.

We are a 501c3, community outreach that works to support and create bridges between local animal rescues and community members who are trying to help animals in need. Our long-term goal is to reduce pet homelessness in New Hanover county, and surrounding communities. We will accomplish this goal by, working with individuals in our community, as well as other community non-profits to help keep pets

in their current home. We will primarily focus our efforts on companion animals, but will spread awareness of issues impacting wildlife.

Our June Member Spotlight is on longtime member Adelia. She is one of our Facebook/Instagram Editors and helps with our local events.
Adelia is a wonderful artist and jeweler who does local craft fairs and has also started a rescue after rescuing 40 cats from a dangerous location.
We asked her why she supports WAC and our mission to end pet homelessness through spaying and neutering.

Why I Support Wilmington Animal Centrix ❤️

As the founder of Addie Catz Sanctuary, I see firsthand the heartbreaking consequences of pet overpopulation. That’s why I’m so passionate about supporting Wilmington Animal Centrix and the incredible work they do through their spay and neuter voucher program.

Spaying and neutering is one of the most important things we can do to reduce animal homelessness and prevent suffering before it begins. Thanks to Wilmington Animal Centrix, spay and neuter services are accessible to so many families throughout Southeastern North Carolina, making it easier than ever to be a responsible pet owner.

I’m incredibly grateful to be part of an organization that is making such a meaningful difference in our community. Every day, I have the opportunity to tell people how simple and affordable it can be to get their pets fixed because of this program.

Together, we’re helping create a future with fewer homeless animals and more pets living happy, healthy lives.

🐍 Not every snake is dangerous!

In North Carolina, most snakes are non-venomous and play an important role in keeping our ecosystem healthy by helping control rodent populations.

Unfortunately, many harmless snakes are killed because they are mistaken for venomous species. Learning to identify our native snakes can help protect both people and wildlife.

If you see a snake:
✅ Keep a safe distance
✅ Give it space to move away
✅ Keep pets and children back
✅ Never attempt to pick it up

Remember: Most snake bites happen when people try to handle or kill a snake.

The safest and kindest approach is usually to leave snakes alone and let them continue on their way. Every snake has a role to play in nature.

🐾 Fleas are more than just an itchy annoyance—they can cause serious health problems for our pets, including skin infections, allergic reactions, tapeworms, and even life-threatening anemia in kittens and senior animals.

The best way to protect your pets is through consistent flea prevention. Treat all pets in the household, wash bedding regularly, vacuum frequently, and keep your yard maintained.

Many people also use food-grade diatomaceous earth (DE) in their homes as part of their flea-control strategy. When lightly applied to carpets, along baseboards, and in pet resting areas, DE can help reduce fleas in the environment. Just be sure to use food-grade DE only and avoid creating airborne dust that people or pets could inhale.

Remember: flea control isn’t just about treating your pet—it’s about treating their environment too.

A few minutes of prevention can save your pets months of discomfort and misery. ❤️

🐾 So Many Cats & Kittens Need Homes! 🐾

One of our members, Adelia with Addie Catz Sanctuary, has worked tirelessly to save cats and kittens in need throughout our community. Thanks to her dedication, many wonderful cats are now safe and looking for loving forever homes—and more will be available for adoption soon!

From playful kittens to affectionate adults, there are so many deserving cats waiting for a family of their own. If you’ve been thinking about adding a feline friend to your home, now is the perfect time to adopt.

But this is also a reminder of why spay and neuter is so important. Every year, countless cats are born with nowhere to go, while rescues struggle to keep up with the overwhelming need. The number of cats needing help continues to grow, and prevention is the most compassionate solution.
