🚨 Urgent Action Needed 🚨

Senator Mike Lee (UT) has proposed an amendment to a bill called the Wildfire Prevention Act that is currently being considered by the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. This amendment would nullify the Roadless Rule, which currently protects nearly 45 million acres of national forest land from permanent road-building and certain extraction activities. Many of these roadless areas are home to iconic running trails and race events, and they’re vital for clean water, clean air, and biodiversity.

The committee will be voting on the amendment tomorrow, June 10.

We need runners who live in any of the states highlighted on this map to call their senator who’s a member of the committee today. We’ve made it simple for runners to easily call the right senator and ask them to vote no on the amendment.

Visit runnersforpubliclands.org/protect-roadless and follow the steps there to call your senator.

The current administration is moving to rescind the Roadless Rule. As we wait for likely the last comment period to open, we want to provide some context as to what this rescission could mean for the running community.

RPL has dedicated a webpage to the Roadless Rule where you can learn more about the issue and view RPL’s interactive map to see the races that could be affected.

This Earth Day, we celebrate seven years of Runners For Public Lands!

RPL officially formed on Earth Day in 2019 as a group of passionate Ventura, California-based runners with the audacious goal of empowering runners to protect public lands and expand access to nature for all. The organization quickly spread locally, regionally, and nationally. This growth confirmed what we suspected from the beginning: runners were eager to give back and help protect the places they run.

We are so excited to continue our work and make the next seven years even better! Thank you to our volunteers, members, partners, and supporters whose belief in our mission makes our work possible.
