Food Pantry Month has come to a close. I have spent a lot of time recently thinking about The Table @ Rejoice, how we operate, what we do well, and what we can improve. The word that keeps resonating is THANKFULNESS! The Table is part of Rejoice! Community Church. Nearly 20 years ago their leadership believed in a dream and a mission. They continue to do so, and we are thankful for who they encourage us to be and how they support us and help us grow. One of the benefits in working as part of Rejoice is engaging with so many other churches. We receive support from them and support them where we can. We all agree that it’s not about territory or who does or doesn’t go to a certain church (or any church for that matter!). It’s about loving all our neighbors, as Jesus calls us to do in the Gospel of Mark. It’s about making sure our kids and their families have good meals, it's about taking care of our seniors, it’s about helping those who are looking for a job, it’s about caring for those who are caught up in a medical or family emergency. It’s about treating individuals with compassion, dignity and respect. Do we get it right every time? No. Do we try to do better? Always!
We could not do what we do without community support. Businesses, churches, families, farmers, community and county organizations, and individuals provide us with the food and finances to support our mission. We have shelves, coolers, freezers, and carts because of donations. We keep those stocked and running because of donations. We currently feed 100-125 families a month. Some families are one person, and some are eight people.
We are not a grocery store. There are limits to what we offer, but we do try to provide options. We have 2-3 volunteers each Tuesday and Wednesday. Many of our volunteers are from Rejoice! However, we have volunteers from other churches and businesses helping us.
We are thankful for another Rejoice! ministry, which is a Food Distribution on the second Tuesday of each month. This organization serves 75-100 families in just over an hour. (You would be amazed!) With the support of the Foodbank of Siouxland, Laura and her crew do awesome things to deliver healthy (and fun) food options for the families that come each month.
There are also volunteers that pick up food from area grocery stores and businesses several mornings a week. These donations help both The Table and the Food Distribution to offer a wider variety of meal options.
You may have noticed that reliable volunteers are what allows this to work. (Hint! Hint!)
Our VOLUNTEERS TRULY ARE THE BEST! They are kind and thankful to help. NO One is paid, yet everyone continues to show up.
Because so many people work together, individuals and families can be supported twice a month - once through the Food Distribution and once through the Table. Both the Food Distribution and The Table work with the Food Bank of Siouxland. They are a wonderful support to us. We also could not operate with them.
Our God is an Awesome God, The Foodbank of Siouxland is Fantastic, LeMars is Great, and volunteers are Amazing. I am SO THANKFUL for the way all of this works together! Yes, WE ARE BETTER TOGETHER!
