Alive In Me Foundation

Alive In Me Foundation AIM was founded in memory of Caleb Richard Shamrell. He taught us how to live and love without limitations. We keep him alive through this charitable work.

When Caleb Shamrell died suddenly after a tonsillectomy, his family knew the only way to make sense of his untimely death was to make as much good come from it as possible. With your help, no matter how big or small, amazing things will happen! We are AIMing to shine a light in dark places. We have three "pillars" we'd like to use to achieve this. Our local pillar is our children's AAA, arts/acade

mics/athletics. We will be giving back to the community that has been so supportive through this difficult time by honoring Caleb's eclectic interests through funding and scholarships for local programs for youth. Our state pillar is Iowa Donor Network. Caleb's organs were donated and he continues to live on by giving others a new lease on life. In his memory, we wish to contribute time and resources to IDN. Jenelle, Caleb’s mom, will be volunteering as a public speaker and donor advocate from the viewpoint of a donor family. Our national pillar is benefiting and supporting families dealing with the aftermath of sudden child death. In a freshly torn apart world, Caleb’s family learned all too well, you just need a break. We offer a chance to breathe, reconnect, and navigate the new normal in a space where you can breathe. Therefore, we'd love to afford families left behind the opportunity to get away. A vacation is healing and so very cathartic for these families left behind after the sudden death of a child. There is no organization to fill this need, so we need to fill it. Please, help us keep Caleb shining bright through all this good!

Hi, all. This is Jenelle, Caleb‘s mom. Long time, no post I know. Not too long after we started this little nonprofit I was chatting with another nonprofit Mom. She made the comment that studies show you have about seven years after death where the public pays attention and after that public support starts to wain. We got six years in and found ourselves in the middle of a global pandemic that made most of what we had done up to that point not possible. As a matter of fact, shut down began the weekend I was scheduled to do another photo shoot for the faces of donation campaign with Iowa Donor Network. Since the pandemic and all of the grief triggers and PTSD responses that brought from my own little immediate family, I’ve honestly felt very tired. I never have stopped thinking about Caleb or wanting to honor him and celebrate him. So much of life has felt daunting. Lately, our kids have been asking me about doing more in Caleb‘s memory again. I suppose I just wanted you all to know that Caleb is not forgotten and the support and encouragement that everyone has given over the years was never taken for granted. We look forward to getting back to the work we love. Thanks for sticking around!
