Today is EARTH DAY! Please take a few minutes to check out the linked newsletter.
“Nothing changes until you change.”
"Changes begins with each of us. Earth Day is one day to bring more attention to the natural world, but I encourage you to take your awareness and your anger and turn it into action throughout the year."
~ Erin Brockovich

Looking for an opportunity to celebrate EARTH DAY in the area local to Rider?

Lawrence East Stream Cleanup 2026
Type: Cleanup
Date: April 25, 2026
Time: 09:00
Duration: Until 11am
Location: Colonial Lake Park
Open to public: Yes

Join the Watershed Institute on April 25, 2026 in LAWRENCE (EAST) and volunteer to help remove trash from areas around local streams at our 20th Annual Stream Cleanup. Over the past decade, 9,700 enthusiastic volunteers have removed more than 166,000 pounds of trash from our communities. Our cleanup events are a great way to get outside, work together to keep our waterways clean, and improve wildlife habitat. Trees NOT Tees! This year we will be offering cleanup volunteers a complimentary tree sapling to say thank you for helping keep our waterways clean! We will not be offering stream cleanup t-shirts as we typically do to reduce our environmental impact and conserve limited natural resources. One cotton t-shirt takes 650 gallons of water to produce while a single oak tree is a keystone species and can host more than 1,000 moth and butterfly caterpillars.

Unfortunately, this goes against what the Governor said in 2024:

“Now more than ever, New Jersey’s commitment to combating and adapting to climate change is unwavering,” Murphy said in November 2024. “Regardless of which administration is in power at the federal level, our state is not going to back down,” Murphy said. “We’re going to do everything we can to reduce emissions, protect our precious environment and build a more sustainable future.”

Federal Solar cuts are hurting the industry and important programs. NJ has a good mechanism for the continuation of renewable development but it's being threatened by a potential shift in party affiliation for the next Governor. Your vote matters for this and other programs in NJ!

President Trump’s cancellation of Biden-era solar incentives is a setback for former prisoners in NJ who have trained as solar installers.
