Uncommon Threads

Uncommon Threads A boutique-style clothing program that empowers low-income women by using clothing and image as tools

Not your average clothing program, Uncommon Threads empowers domestic violence survivors and women in need by using clothes and image to boost self-esteem, self-worth and self-confidence. Clients are social worker referred and receive up to four complete outfits with the help of our "volunteer" stylists. All donations are tax deductible through our partnership with Family Services of The Merrimack Valley.

Uncommon Threads is turning 10 years old this fall, and we're celebrating with a very special birthday gala!

Over the past decade, we've had the privilege of serving tens of thousands of women, helping them move forward with confidence as they prepare for interviews, enter the workforce, and life events and challenges. What started as a small idea has grown into a vital community resource, and we're incredibly grateful for everyone who has been part of the journey.

If you own a business—or know someone who does—I hope you'll consider helping us celebrate this milestone by becoming a gala sponsor and/or donating an auction item. Your support will help ensure that we can continue empowering women for years to come.

Please see the information below to learn more.
Thank you for supporting Uncommon Threads and the women we serve. ❤️

Meet Elizabeth 💛

Elizabeth came to us unsure of herself, worried about her English speaking skills and uncomfortable in her changing body. She only wanted casual clothes — pieces that felt comfortable and easy to wear.

At first, nothing quite clicked. But then we added a scarf to one outfit and everything changed. Elizabeth lit up, smiled big, and said, “I look like a model.” From there, her confidence grew with every piece she tried on — flowy gauze pants, fun tops, and even the perfect pair of shoes.

As we sat together waiting for her ride, Elizabeth shared more of her story — her deep love for her family, her pride in her daughter pursuing a career in healthcare, and the heartbreak of having a very sick mother she cannot travel to see.

By the time she left, Elizabeth was all smiles and hugs.

The positive energy was contagious! ✨

We’re so grateful to the North Andover school administrators leadership group for hosting a Sip & Shop at Uncommon Closet 🥂

We loved giving them a tour of the program, sharing our mission, and helping them select outfits that support women in need with every purchase.

Thank you for spending the evening with us and for being part of a community that lifts women up. ✨

Want to host a Sip & Shop of your own? Gather your friends, coworkers, or community group for a fun evening that gives back.

Thank you to always making our events look so beautiful 💐 and to T180 PROFESSIONAL for sponsoring our beautiful shopping bags. 🛍️

We are thrilled to recognize our Volunteer of the Month, DEB COWAN, whose kindness, and generosity have already made such a positive impact at Uncommon Threads . She jumped right in to help from the start and even donated a brand-new steamer! Married for 40 years, she is a proud mother to a daughter and son and a loving grandmother to her grandson. Originally from Swampscott, she recently retired from a career in CPA and bookkeeping work. When she’s not volunteering, she enjoys music, reading, and gardening. We are so grateful to have you, Deb! 🥰

Uncommon Threads is a place where women can fall in love with themselves. ❤️

Every woman who walks through our doors deserves to feel beautiful, confident, and worthy—especially during life’s hardest moments.

This Mother’s Day, honor the mom in your life by giving back to a woman who could use a little hope, dignity, and kindness. 🌷

A donation to Uncommon Threads helps provide clothing, confidence, and a reminder that she matters. And honestly…there’s no greater gift than helping another woman feel seen.
