As another Camp Otter season comes to a close in the next few weeks, we’re taking a moment to celebrate the life and lasting legacy of J.D. Daniels.

After J.D. was tragically killed by a hit-and-run driver just one day after his 13th birthday in 1997, his family found a meaningful way to honor his memory: investing in the things that J.D. loved. From that commitment, the J.D. Daniels Memorial Fund was born.

Camp Otter was one of those places J.D. loved. This summer, his family generously pledged $10,000 in camp scholarships, helping 21 Methuen families with financial need experience the joy of Camp Otter.

J.D.’s legacy continues to make a difference at Camp Otter through a bench dedicated in his memory—a lasting reminder of the love he had for camp and the many young people whose lives are touched because his family chose to carry that love forward.

We’re grateful to the Daniels family for honoring J.D.’s memory in such a meaningful way and for helping create opportunities for local youth to make memories of their own. ❤️

We have a new face at the Andover/North Andover YMCA. Please welcome Matt Bakas, our new Senior Aquatics Director!

Matt grew up going to the Y with his family: learning to swim, sports programs, day camp, you name it. His first ever job was as a Lifeguard and Swim Instructor at the Franklin Y, and he most recently served as the Director of Aquatics and Safety for the Foxboro YMCA.

We're excited to have Matt leading our aquatics programs at our Andover/North Andover branch!

Jr. Celtics are coming to the Merrimack Valley YMCA! 🏀☘

We are so excited to partner with the Jr. Celtics Academy to bring this 12-week youth basketball program to all of our branches November 21 to February 27. Participants each recieve an authentic Jr. Celtics jersey, plus unique events like Draft Day and an award ceremony.

We spent Monday On Course for a Cause at Indian Ridge Country Club. And thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, donors and golfers, we raised over $60,000 so that more children have the opportunity to attend summer camp! 😎
