Prevention Fact Friday: Prevention Starts With Connection

In recognition of Substance Use Prevention Month, PYHIT has launched a new Prevention Facts page, a growing and dynamic resource that will continue to be updated with information that can help build awareness, strengthen connections, and encourage conversations about prevention, including protective factors, healthy coping, early intervention, stigma, family and community connection, and more.

“I used to let fear hold me back. Now, I let fear drive me forward.”

For Corrie Blair, CASAC II and Senior Community Outreach Counselor at Baywood Center, working at PYHIT is more than a job. It’s a story of growth, purpose, and coming full circle.

Corrie began her career with us as an intern, grew into the counselor she is today, spent time away from the organization, and ultimately found her way back to the work she loves: being out in the community, connecting with people, and helping those who may not otherwise have access to traditional treatment.

Participants at Troy Women’s Reintegration recently completed a recovery-focused project exploring addiction as a disease and what recovery can look like throughout the process. The activity encouraged participants to better understand addiction, recovery, and the importance of trusting the process as they continue moving forward.

Join us at Baywood Center for Tomb V’s Haunted Hallow,
a family-friendly Halloween walk-through created in memory of Tom VanNess.

🗓 Friday & Saturday evenings throughout October
⏰ 6:00–9:00 PM
🎟 Free admission — donations appreciated!

Come experience the sights, sounds, animatronics, and Halloween atmosphere! Plenty of spooky fun for the whole family! 💀🧟‍♀️

Trunk or Treat is coming to Schuyler Inn!

We’re getting ready to make Halloween a fun, safe, and memorable night for the kids at Schuyler Inn — and Ms. Aisha could use your help!

We’re looking for volunteers to decorate their vehicles and hand out candy, along with donations of candy and new or gently used Halloween costumes for the kids.

Donations are being accepted September 24 through October 26.

Trunk or Treat: Friday, October 30 at 6 PM

Want to volunteer or help with a donation? Contact [email protected] for more information.

A little candy, a decorated trunk, and a few helping hands can go a long way toward making Halloween special for the children and families we serve.
