Our FoodForward initiative empowers our partners to undertake new initiatives that expand their capacity so they can serve more neighbors. Faith Food Pantry in Rexford has been able to purchase a new vehicle to improve food pickups, deliveries, and neighbor access; expand nutrition education to help families prepare healthy meals; improve accessibility for non-English speaking neighbors through translation services; and more. Today our partner agencies are picking up fresh produce, which was harvested yesterday from our Patroon Land Farm in Albany County and delivered in the afternoon. Our CEO, Tom Nardacci, explains how we get these locally grown, nutritious vegetables from the farm to tables within 24 hours to support our neighbors in need.

East Ramapo Central School District in Rockland County wanted to expand their offerings to families to include more fresh and frozen foods. The Food Bank’s FoodForward initiative allowed them to purchase a new freezer, greatly increasing their selection of frozen meat and protein! Each month, around 700 people are helped in the district. East Ramapo CSD, we are so proud to partner with you to help increase your distribution of fresh and frozen food to neighbors in need!

Our CEO, Tom Nardacci, was recently on North Country Public Radio to discuss the alarming rise in food insecurity in the Adirondack North Country. Nearly 38,000 people, including 20% of children, are facing food insecurity in the region. In rural communities, food insecurity comes with added challenges: limited infrastructure, workforce shortages, and long distances to essential services.

Nardacci noted, "People are making tough decisions: 'could I buy these vegetables, or do I have to buy my medicine this week?'" At the Regional Food Bank, we're committed to working with our partners to ensure every neighbor in every corner of our region has access to the nutritious foods they need to thrive.
