Center for Vascular Awareness highlights Venous Disease!

Today’s topic is Post-Thrombotic Syndrome (PTS): Living with Long-Term Complications of DVT

• Topic: Post-Thrombotic Syndrome (PTS) is a long-term complication of DVT, characterized by pain, swelling, and ulcers in the affected leg. This occurs due to damage to the vein valves from the blood clot, which impairs circulation. Managing PTS includes wearing compression stockings, elevating the legs, and staying active to improve blood flow. In more severe cases, medications or surgical procedures may be necessary to manage symptoms.

• Why it’s important: By raising awareness about PTS, individuals who have had DVT can take proactive steps to manage the condition and prevent further complications.

Center for Vascular Awareness highlights Venous Disease!

This month, we’re dedicating our platform to raising awareness about Venous Disease, a condition that affects millions but is often overlooked. From Varicose Veins to more serious issues like Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) and Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI), our goal is to educate, inform, and empower YOU.

Today’s topic is Risk Factors and Genetic Predisposition to Venous Disease

• Topic: Genetic predisposition plays a significant role in venous diseases like varicose veins, CVI, and DVT. A family history of these conditions increases the likelihood of developing them. Lifestyle factors, including obesity, immobility, and pregnancy, can exacerbate the risks. Early screening and preventive measures such as compression therapy and exercise are crucial for those with a genetic predisposition to venous disease.

• Why it’s important: Knowing one’s family history and genetic risk factors can encourage early interventions, which are key to preventing disease progression and severity.

Today’s topic is Venous Leg Ulcers: Causes, Treatment, and Prevention

• Topic: Venous leg ulcers are open sores that develop secondary to chronic venous insufficiency. Poor blood flow causes pressure to build in the veins, leading to skin breakdown and ulcers, particularly around the ankles. Treatment involves wound care, compression therapy, and sometimes surgical interventions to improve circulation. Preventive measures include managing CVI, keeping the legs elevated, and wearing compression stockings.

• Why it’s important: Early intervention and preventive measures can help prevent venous ulcers, which are difficult to treat once they develop and can significantly impact quality of life.
