Today, Monday, October 26, we recognize Inters*x Awareness Day and celebrate inters*x people, whose natural diversity reminds us that human biology is more complex than the boxes society tries to put us in.

Inters*x people are born with s*x characteristics — including chromosomes, hormones, reproductive organs, or anatomy — that don’t fit typical definitions of male or female bodies. Inters*x is a natural variation in human biology, not something that needs to be fixed or hidden.

Today is about more than awareness. It’s about respect, bodily autonomy, informed consent, and the right to make decisions about your own body.

Please remember to:
* Listen to inters*x voices. Center the people whose experiences are too often overlooked.
* Challenge stigma and misinformation. Inters*x people deserve to live openly and authentically, without shame or discrimination.
* Support bodily autonomy. Inters*x people deserve dignity, access to affirming healthcare, and the right to participate in decisions about their own bodies.
* Make our LGBTQIA+ community truly inclusive. Inters*x people are an important part of our broader community, and their experiences deserve recognition in our advocacy, education, and everyday conversations.

Being inters*x is not a problem to solve. Inters*x people deserve to be respected, celebrated, and empowered to define their own lives. Today and every day, let’s work toward a world where bodily diversity is understood, human rights are protected, and everyone can live with dignity.

As*xuality is a spectrum, and there’s no one right way to be ace! ♠️

This As*xual Awareness Week, October 25 to October 31, we’re celebrating our as*xual community and raising awareness about the diversity of human experiences with attraction, intimacy, and relationships.

As*xuality generally describes experiencing little to no s*xual attraction. Some as*xual people experience romantic attraction, some don’t, and some enjoy relationships, physical affection, or s*x, while others don’t. There’s no single experience that defines being as*xual, and **being ace doesn’t mean someone is broken, cold, immature, or incapable of love.**

💜 As*xuality is valid.
🖤 Aromantic and as*xual identities are not the same thing, though they can overlap.
🤍 You don’t need to prove, explain, or justify your identity to anyone.
🩶 Everyone deserves the freedom to define their own boundaries and relationships without pressure or judgment.

Let’s challenge the myths, ditch the assumptions, and make room for the full spectrum of human experiences. Whether you identify as ace, are questioning, are still learning, or simply want to be a better ally, there’s space for you in this conversation.

You don’t owe anyone attraction. You don’t owe anyone intimacy. And you never have to fit someone else’s expectations to be valid.

Your pronouns matter! Respecting someone’s pronouns is a simple, meaningful way to show respect for who they are and how they choose to move through the world.

Today, Wednesday, October 21, we celebrate International Pronouns Day. This day is all about the beautiful diversity of gender identities and reminds everyone that using someone’s correct pronouns isn’t about being perfect — it’s about making an effort, showing respect, and being willing to learn.

* Ask instead of assuming.
* Share your own pronouns to help normalize the practice.
* If you make a mistake, correct yourself, apologize briefly, and keep going.
* Respect that not everyone feels safe or comfortable sharing their pronouns publicly.

Whether someone uses she/her, he/him, they/them, multiple pronouns, or something else entirely, everyone deserves to be addressed with dignity.

Creating an inclusive community starts with the little things we do every day. When we respect people’s pronouns, we help create spaces where everyone can feel seen, valued, and welcome.

Remember that pronouns are personal and respect is universal. Let’s keep building a community where everyone belongs, exactly as they are!

Today, Thursday, October 15, we recognize National Latinx HIV/AIDS Awareness Day and reaffirm our commitment to raising awareness, breaking down stigma, and making sure our communities have access to the care, resources, and support they deserve.

HIV does not define a person. A diagnosis does not diminish someone's worth, and no one should have to face stigma, discrimination, or barriers to healthcare because of who they are, who they love, their language, or their background.

We can make a difference by promoting HIV testing, sharing accurate information, supporting access to PrEP and HIV treatment, and creating spaces where people can ask questions and seek care without fear or judgment.

For our LGBTQ+ Latinx community, these conversations are especially important. **Health equity means culturally affirming care, language access, and resources that meet people where they are.** It means recognizing the barriers people face while celebrating the strength, resilience, and diversity of our communities.

Today and every day, let's replace stigma with understanding, silence with conversation, and judgment with compassion. Let's work toward a future where everyone has the information, healthcare, and support they need to thrive.

Knowledge is prevention. Treatment is care. Community is strength.

🏳️‍🌈 🏳️‍⚧️ Happy National Coming Out Day!

Coming out is different for everyone. For some, it’s a celebration. For others, it’s a journey filled with fear, uncertainty, courage, and hope. For many, it’s something that happens over and over again in different spaces, with different people, and at different stages of life.

Today, Sunday, October 11, on National Coming Out Day we celebrate everyone who has dared to live authentically, those who are still figuring things out, those who aren’t ready to come out, and those for whom coming out simply isn’t safe. You don’t owe anyone your story, your identity, or an explanation.

Coming out should never be a requirement for being accepted, loved, or respected. Everyone deserves the freedom to be themselves without fear of rejection, discrimination, or harm.

The best thing we can do is create a world where coming out is met with love, where being LGBTQIA+ is never treated as something to overcome, and where everyone has the safety and support to live openly if they choose to.

To everyone living their truth, finding their way, or holding space for someone else: we see you, we celebrate you, and you belong here. And as the theme of Pride on the Plaza stated: "We're Here To Stay!"

Come as you are. Be who you are. You are worthy of love, exactly as you are.

Today, Thursday, October 8, is International Le***an Day!! We didn't want to let the day go by without recognizing the lovely ladies whose letter starts our initialism. The strength and love of le****ns have been a pillar of strength in our community. As such, we decided to give a brief history of the Le***an Pride Flags.

The first commonly used Le***an Pride Flag is known as "Larry's Flag," and it was widely adopted in 1999. This flag is recognized by its purple background, an upside-down black triangle, and a white axe in the center.

The next Le***an Pride Flag to hit the scene in 2010 is known as the "Pink Flag" and comes with or without a kiss mark. This flag commemorated the female-presenting le****ns, with the one including a kiss being used by those who self-identified as "lipstick le****ns."

More recently, in 2018, the Le***an Pride Flag called the "Sunset Flag" was adopted. This flag was created by Emily Gwen, who posted the design on Tumblr, where it was popularized.

Pride on the Plaza was a huge success last weekend, Saturday, October 3, and we at Southern New Mexico Pride are so grateful to everyone who helped make it possible and attended this annual event. None of this would be possible without you!

Today's the day! Pride on the Plaza is HERE!! TONIGHT at the Plaza de Las Cruces on Main Street between Las Cruces Avenue and Griggs.

The celebration is happening this evening, Saturday, October 3, starting at 5:00 PM, and we’re ready to fill the streets with love, joy, community, and a whole lot of Pride!

But before the music starts and the party gets going, DON’T MISS THE PARADE on Main Street at 4:00 PM!

The parade, hosted by FYI Plus NM and Visit Las Cruces, New Mexico, is our kickoff — and you’ll want to be there from the very beginning. Come line the route, cheer on our incredible community, wave your flags, make some noise, and help us start the celebration together!

Then stick around for an evening of music, performers, community, vendors, and Pride.

Bring your friends. Bring your family. Bring your biggest Pride energy. See you at the parade — then let’s celebrate!

The party continues at the Rio Grande Theatre with Dr. Lucky's Blue Revue "Get Into Drag," a late-night drag show to wrap up the celebration. Tickets are available for "Get Into Drag" at the Rio Grande Theatre and online.

Dr. Lucky is a sponsor of Pride on the Plaza.
