Coming Up In October: The Spooks Begin - New Mexico Robot Combat Competition

The club is holding their next competition on October 3rd!

If you are interested in competing, you can check out their page and website, or look for October 3rd on the Cruces Creatives website events page.

Spectators are welcome! If you’d like to witness the spectacle, cheer on your favorite bot, or get a feel for what these competitions are like, then come by Cruces Creatives (205 E Lohman) on October 3rd, doors open at 9:00am.

Art Carts by Velo Cruces & Cruces Creatives STEAM Youth Program

Cruces has been working on a special project!

The construction of the Art Carts started at least as far back as 2025. The carts shown here are the most recent.

Donald Wilson, President of Velo Cruces and head of the Hub Community Bike Shop, tells us that the local artist SABA (Saba Wear) was able to make a lot of progress on the Art Carts, and local artist Logan Howard was able to finish the work.

Students of the Cruces Creatives STEAM Youth Program were given the opportunity to help construct these two most recent carts in our Woodshop Service Learning course earlier this year. https://crucescreatives.org/page-18234

The plan is to publicly present the carts during the Fine Arts Flea Market on THIS Friday, September 4th around 6:00pm. The carts will then be delivered to theMesilla Valley Community of Hope on Tuesday, September 8th for presentation to their new owners.

Introducing Kendra Johnson as Homeschool Liaison for Cruces Creatives

Kendra Johnson has been homeschooling her two kids for seven years, and her family has been part of Cruces Creatives for five of them. It has become an integral part of how they homeschool, and that firsthand experience is exactly what she brings to her new role as Homeschool Liaison.

As Homeschool Liaison, Kendra helps homeschool families make the most of what Cruces Creatives has to offer. That includes:

Answering questions from homeschool families about the space and what's available to them

Connecting families with classes and resources that fit their needs

Helping families understand how to use the space for their homeschool learning

Organizing events for the homeschool community

She's excited to be a point of connection for homeschool families in Las Cruces, and to help make Cruces Creatives feel like the resource for them that it has been for her own family.

A big thanks to everyone who showed up to the Homeschool Open House last week!

It was exciting to see how robust the homeschooling community is here. We are excited to further this relationship between the Makerspace and the homeschoolers of Las Cruces.

Cruces Creatives is a maker-focused creative space designed for curious minds of all ages. We provide access to 3D printers, a full wood shop, a laser printer, sewing machines, art supplies, yarn, beading supplies, and more. All this makes us a great resource for hands-on learning at its best.

The Makerspace is available for drop-in tours Wednesday to Saturday from 9:00am to 1:00pm.

Cruces Creatives is hosting an open house for homeschool families who want to know more about what we do and how membership works. The tour will begin at 11:30.

We are a maker-focused creative space designed for curious minds of all ages. Think of us like a gym membership, except instead of treadmills, you get access to 3D printers, a full wood shop, a laser printer, sewing machines, art supplies, yarn, beading supplies, and more.
